I understand the broken bowls and other treasures have to be analyzed to determine value. But, what is the purpose of collecting Dive Well fragments? Or, any of the other fragments in this game? Also,...

I don't remember exact process how I combined them, if it was possible without cheat codes or not. But if you use testingcheatsenabled true code and on build mode click the well while pressing Shift (or Ctrl-Shift) you should get more options including choosing a treasure at the bottom. I remember it was very easy to combine them, just clicking and choosing to combine two wells.
