Dunno why EA called it a shotgun style.
A shotgun house is long (normally 12ftwide) with the rooms all on one side of the house (opposite of the front and back doors)! The name comes from the fact that you can fire a gun from the front porch, have the bullet travel thru the house, and out the back door, without hitting a wall. Most shotgun houses are one story, though there's some two story shotgun houses as well.
The Sims3 shotgun house is not long, nor are the rooms to one side. There's not even a back door on it either. I guess they didn't have any floorplans of an actual shotgun house when they made the game.
That's true ... But I can see what people are getting at.
I always called them "cracker boxes" ... Just straight, no frills and a simple design.
I have never been too fond of them and they feel like a prison cell in some ways, with small room and cramped living areas.
That's probably why most of my builds have open floor plans.
My Sims will live on an open lot in a tent before they will stuff themselves into a tiny box ... :D
Once they earn enough money for a house and are ready for a family (if they want one) ... Then they get a nice house.
