Have you tried having them exercise for a moment after they aged up? Sometimes the head starts on skills don't kick in until they do a tiny amount of further skilling and then it all catches up. Example: after reading the three toddler books related to Logic, the Level 3 Logic skill head start tend to not show up until they come into contact with a computer (chess table, telescope) as a teen or older.
