You're probably right, Irene. MC reveals a child athletics skill, but it doesn't appear to have any practical value either. Must be one of those unfinished projects that the game's developers never got around to doing anything with.
Edit: On the other hand, the Sims Wiki claims that the childhood skill converts to the regular Athletic skill upon aging up to teenager. Maybe one of the more recent patches broke it.
