That I am afraid is not possible even when using mods to arrange for a Homeworld University -- there is no other way to go to Uni while still at home and one cannot be a Uni student and work a regular career in the same world at the same time.
However, I think the disconnect here might be that this is a TS3 thread from seven years ago when TS3's University expansion was just being released and is on the TS3 section of the forum. TS4 is a very different game and nothing that was said above would apply to it. :)
