Will Sims 3 be rendered unplayable in 2022 since the launcher depends on IE?

I'm not sure since I use the DVD versions of the Base game and all expansion packs and not the Origin based Digital Download version,

I don't know how it'll work but I'm hoping if we have IE installed on our computers now then it'll still allow us to use it for Sims 3. The problem will happen when/if we get a new computer and can't install IE onto it. I've tried using IE a few times over the past year or two and it doesn't cope with most of what I want to do with it so I suspect they really abandoned it some time ago.

It'll be up to EA to decide if they want us to still be able to play Sims 3. They will decide if they want us to still be able to access the store and the launcher. Probably the launcher will be the problem. I hope, if they do update it they don't decide it is a great opportunity to force us all onto the Origin only version of the game. IF they do it'll probably be the end of my Sims 3 experience as I don't want to have to cope with all the issues created by having to connect to Origin and suffer the consequences of it making my playing life miserable.

IE hasn't worked on my PC for a while now as every time that I click on in it, it sends me to Microsoft Edge. I'm still able to download items from the store as well as using the launcher as I'm still on patch 1.67 even though I don't use the ITF disc to start my game. I haven't had to use that disc since I had reinstalled my game back in 2015, a year before the 1.69 patch came out.

Edit to say that even though I have Edge on my PC, I use Google as my search engine.

I will be very very upset if I can no longer play sims 3.I refuse to go to the Sims 4
So I guess now is the time to make a download of all my sims 3 store items.

As indicated on the other thread, what Microsoft is trying to do among other things is shift what is currently running behind the scenes as IE to IE Mode under the cover of MS Edge. It doesn't matter which browser or search engines the players prefer to or can successfully use openly on the web, the Launcher and the game are going to use the assets of IE itself or IE Mode/Edge (when the time comes) as they need to, as per their programming.

I don't think that the sky is falling or that we have much to worry about. Yet. :)

I doubt it. The game runs offline so it shouldn't need any browser to function. There could possibly be some issues with the online parts of the launcher but otherwise I doubt it'll have any effect.

*checks out my TS2 game and sees that it still works just fine* I'd say that TS3 is going to be just fine. Older games take some tweaks sometimes but there is usually a way to get them to work.

Would launching through Origin still work? I still love playing Sims 3 and I would always want to play this.

Here is an article that just came out today (5-25-2021) that talks about IE and Edge stating that Edge is capable of accessing IE-based apps and sites and how long IE will be supported through Edge.
