Can't install store or custom content through launcher

I'm running The Sims 3 64-bit (version 1.70.305.02.024017) on macOS 14.6.1. When trying to install sims3pack cc or store content it displays the message “Error: critical system failure”

- Was initially running mods (which are working)
- I don't have the greyed out base game icon in the launcher

Solutions I've Attempted:

1) Check for corrupted cc by removing all but one sims3pack (based on this forum post: Sims 3 64-bit: problems installing store/custom content | EA Forums - 11144496) Tried this again after removing “The Sims 3” folder from ea folder in documents and launching again, creating a factory reset version. Tried with different cc from reputable cc creators

2) Tried repairing the game via EA app [Library>Sims 3>Options>Repair]
(also based on that first link) Also used Reset Origin tool

3) Converting sims3pack to package files (not a permanent fix but at least some kind of solution) Basically all known tools that do this are based on Windows only. I have downloaded mac conversions of some through this creator: https://www.fakehousesrealawesome.com/post/182630395380/updated-sims-3-utilities-for-macs  [I'm not able open these bc my mac can't tell if it contains malware... tried opening using ctrl+click>open to bypass and literally nothing happens when i try to open them now. (like i get the application start/open animation but nothing runs or changes otherwise) Also tried using wine bottler on these [getting "Bad CPU type in executable" error, turns out wine bottler doesn't support 64-bit or has issues relating to that?]

I'm overall very exhausted from all of this. I've not only tried all of these solutions, but various combinations of them as well. I'm sure theres also a couple solutions I forgot about. For now, I guess I will just have to find only .package cc but that is just a bandaid on a 5+ year old issue

  • mayorNEDmcdodd  This is, unfortunately, a persistent error with no reliable fix at the moment.  I'm not sure whether it's an account issue or something else.

I can certainly offer some suggestions though, for however long you're up for experimenting.  First, please create a new admin account on your Mac, and don't link it to your Apple ID.  Open the EA App and repair Sims 3 (again, specifically in the new account), then try to install one cc item.

If that doesn't work, do you use a third-party antivirus, or a VPN, or some kind of cleaner app?  Let me know about all of these, and also what version of macOS you're running.
