My Sims 3 crashes after I use cheats

Hi so I am trying a challenge which forces my sim to have 0 in family funds, and when I used the family funds to cheat my funds game crashes or crashes after a few minutes. I first thought this is specifically related to me using the family funds cheat, however just me enabling cheats through the command seems to cause this issue.

  • Paxkey  Your laptop's graphics chip is pretty weak for Sims 3, at least once pets are introduced.  It's still very strange that using cheats is causing the crashing—that shouldn't happen at all and doesn't have anything to do with graphics rendering.  And I don't think I've ever seen a case where this is how a graphics issue has played out.

Since it's an easy test, please remove or rename the Sims 3 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts.  When you open the launcher, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save in Appaloosa Plains and see how it runs.

If this doesn't help, you can delete the new Sims 3 folder and restore the old one.  If it does help, you can start transferring your content from the old folder to the new one, but don't do everything at once; it's important to test mods and custom content first to see whether these files reintroduce the issue.

As for rendering pets, how invested are you in the animal population in Appaloosa Plains?  For example, do you want cats or dogs but not horses, do you want the wild horses roaming around town, do you want raccoons and deer, do you want small animals?  With mods, it's possible to remove some of these and leave others, which may help enough to make the world stable.

  • Paxkey  Does this happen if you use no cheats at all?  Are you saying testingcheatsenabled true causes the game to crash, and if so, does resetsim [sim name] also cause a crash?

If you'd like to keep playing while troubleshooting this, you could instead use NRaas MasterController to set Family Funds to zero or whatever you want.  Click the ground of the lot and select NRaas > MC > Household > Family Funds > [number you want to add; use a - for negatives].  You'll need the MC Cheats add-on as well.

puzzlezaddict Hello thank you for your reply, the game did run fine for a while when I no longer used testingcheatsenabled, I found a work around. However it seems that the crashing is caused by the cheats but also another variable, I am not sure what this is because I never had this happen to be before in such a continuous manner, like maybe last year I have 2 or 3 crashes but they were just odd balls or my laptop giving up. I think it might be an issue in the world I am playing cause it is Appaloosa Plains, I have played in both Bridgeport and Sunset Valley and nothing has happened.

  • Paxkey  Appaloosa Plains has issues related to pet routing, in particular (but not only) baby animals not being able to use stairs.  It's also harder to run because pets are harder to render.  So if the game is stable elsewhere and only crashes in AP, at least aside from the cheats issue, this could be due to your computer's hardware struggling to handle the demands the game is placing on it.

On that subject, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please also let me know whether the game crashes in other worlds when you use cheats, and if it does with testingcheatsenabled, try resetsim.

puzzlezaddict  I have attached it but excluded my laptop's name and id I hope that isn't a big issue. I check other towns and they seem to be file when I use testing cheats enabled, it is just weird to be that Bridgeport works for me but not AP, I haven't encounter this issue with anything else and I don't use the Island Paradise world anyways, and store worlds worked fine for me so I was baffled when it crashed so much.

puzzlezaddict I did what you said about a new folder and the game worked and ran fine. When I replaced my original folder back and ran the game, it seems to run fine now and doesn't crash. No idea what was truly the reason for the crash or what I changed beacuse I actually didn't change anything much, but it’s working now maybe the system needed to refresh.
