Ok, so I fired up a vanilla game and the issue is still there, but I did discover that it is limited to children. So children are no longer given the option to use the collection helper to highlight seeds, insects, gems and fish. Only the option to give as a gift.

Now to try for the lab outfit part. I'm using the Curious family at the moment, but he's science not medical so I'll probably switch to a medical track sim at some point.
