My understanding from what crinrict and others have said is that there'll be a patch simultaneous with the release of Generations (so the end of this month) but its main purpose will be to make the base game compatible with the new EP. Then, if the pattern stays true, there could be a further patch a few months later, to fix bugs. It's possible that the first patch may include some bug fixes but that won't be its primary purpose.
Fingers crossed time. I'm sceptical about the level of bug fixing in the patches - some players have had these and other problems for such a very long time and there have been patches in the interim period that didn't fix long-standing bugs ... but we'll see how EA do this time I guess.
