Hi 45rpm: I actually made it past the dreaded week ten and am almost to week twelve. No invisible Sims so far. I have had one Sim I play regularly start "acting up" but it seemed to be the lot rather than him.
It was a house I built from scratch on an empty lot but I started getting pathing errors and when I asked him to do something, he
kept indicating he couldn't get to the item. Finally moved him
and his gems and stuff to an empty lot and tried again (to use the stand that holds the gems and to do the "activate" action) and it worked so I built him another house.
I did notice when I tried to do the action again because I had a lot of metals I wanted to make large ingots out of, he kept stalling. Couple steps, freeze, more steps, freeze - barely noticable. The mailman was on the lot putting more metals into the mailbox. Was that the reason? The metals were somehow being used by the game? Once the mailman was gone, no more stalling and he works fine now.
Have also sent several Sims to Egypt and finally to China with no
problems.
