Re: Fix "Unknown Error Occurred"? SIMS 3 MAC

Hi amber--

So this is a really common issue for Mac people, however it doesn't usually happen when the game first loads; I've only had that happen to me once and the next I opened it, it was fine.  For most people, it happens after a little while of play. Were you opening the game for the first time? Did you get any errors during installation and/or did you already add mods or any custom content?

  • I have this problem everytime I install an Expansion pack.

    TO SOLVE:

    1. Go into the application, "Disk Utility"

    2. You're gonna see a thing-a-ma-bob that says "Recovery HD"

    3. Click it

    4. Now click "Restore"

    5. Now "Recovery HD" should be in bold print.

    6. Now uninstall everything Sims 3 (doing a back-up before this is pretty imperative!)

    7. Start installing again

This fixed the problem for me, I hope it does for you too!

    HI

I'm not sure what it is that you are trying to do with Disk Utility. However if you feel that you need to conduct disk repair for some reason, take a look at this thread in which BluebellFlora explains a bit about good maintenance tips for your Mac, including use of Disk Utility.

You can also see Apple's official page on Disk Utility here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1782

I think BluebellFlora's thread makes more sense from a simmer's persepective though.

I have the problem WHILE I AM REINSTALLING, so telling me how to reinstall (this is the third time I'm trying to reinstall Sims 3 on my new Mac) is not really relevant any longer.

I can't believe I just bought a brand new machine and now I can't even install the game... ☹️

And my HD certainly doesn't need repairing.

    Hi Karin

Is this a problem with installing from Origin or from discs? Is it giving you an actual error message or just not working? There seem to be so many simmers having trouble just getting this game to install, it's getting ridiculous. Most of the issues seem to be with Origin though, or with the patch if using discs.

Hope you get it to work!
