head was normal colour but hair was gone expect for the png textures for it (like the little sticky up bits)

@JoelDB7  Your dxdiag lists a number of Sims 3 crashes, most of which aren't specific enough to be helpful.  But a couple of them cite a component of VC++ 2005, which Sims 3 uses, as the faulting module, so it's worth uninstalling and reinstalling the runtime.  Hit Windows key-i, select Apps, scroll down to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, click on the 2005 version (it's the x86 version but won't say so), and uninstall.  You can download a fresh copy here:

For Sims 3, you only need the x86 version, not either of the others.  Restart after installing and before trying to play.

If that doesn't help, please go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and move Options.ini to the desktop.  This will reset all your in-game options, graphics and otherwise.  That's fine for now, but do test with a new save if you don't want your current saves to be affected.  Don't change any of the graphics options except the resolution and fullscreen/windowed mode; just go into CAS and see how it looks.

If you still have the same issue, remove the Smooth Patch and test again.  You can start with the .package file in Mods/Packages if you have it, but if that doesn't help, remove the Bin files as well.
