the box should have a sealed plastic wrapper and a black and white leaflet with the game code on the back of the leaflet , if she has the receipt she should be able to return it for sealed wrapped one probs she should  call the place she bought it from to explain the situation and to see if they still have the game in stock before she heads off to change it
