Re: .package cc files not showing up in-game

@carlymcooper The crashing might have caused it to not show up. If re-downloaded files work, you can try re-downloading other Mods and CC and see if they show up in the game again. Don't forget to delete the cache.
It might also be a good idea to keep a backup of your Mods/CC after you confirm they work, so you don't have to re-download them again if something goes wrong.

  • Hi - thanks for your response.

I actually had a backup of my CC. Neither the old CC or new CC will appear in game. Nraas Mods still work fine though. Strange.

@carlymcooper  Did you also replace your old ccmerged.package?  If not, please try it now.  And be sure to delete all five of the cache files any time you add or remove any content from your user folder:

    • CASPartCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • simCompositorCache.package
    • socialCache.package

Please also make sure that the new cc downloads you're testing with work as standalone items, i.e. they're not missing a mesh from another cc item or from a pack you don't own.  The descriptions on the download pages should state any requirements.

Many thanks puzzlezaddict, but still no luck. Re-made the Sims 3 File in Documents to ensure I had the new ccmerged.package - Even tested with old CC and new downloaded CC, deleting those cache files you suggested before starting. My bad luck with this one haha.

@carlymcooper  Just in case it's that simple, please make sure the "run without custom content" box in the launcher is NOT checked.

If that's not the issue, please let me know whether you use OneDrive, and if so, whether it's set to automatically sync the contents of Documents.

    Definitely unchecked.

I do have OneDrive but don't actively use it, autosync must be off as the folder is empty.

@carlymcooper  Okay, let's try something different.  Please send me a couple of links, via private message, to custom content that you've newly downloaded and can't get to show up in your game.  I'll test the items, and if I get them to show up in my game, I'll send you a user folder with them installed, and you let me know whether they show up in yours.

One more thing, just in case:  Do you have your user folder on an external drive or USB stick?  It should still work fine, but I'm curious anyway.

Hi, I'm having an issue with one specific file.. I haven't had issues with it before, but i got a new PC and for some reason it just won't show up in my game. All of my other cc is there, no problem.

EDIT: It's the lakeside saddlery hd horse coat

I've tried everything you said, even threw out my entire folder and downloaded new framework. It still won't work. I've tried putting it in Overrides like the website said but that didn't work either. I've never had problems with this file before, I was always able to use it without any issues... I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Help? It's currently in my mods/packages.

@nynkeglas  I'll check it out later tonight when I have time.  In the interim, please remove the link: links to third-party downloads are not allowed on this site.

Not trying to be a bother but did you have any ideas?

@nynkeglas  I'm so sorry about the late reply.  I tested on one computer right away and couldn't make the item work, and I intended to test in a different OS... and then the Sims 4 patch hit and I've been totally swamped.  (I also needed to reinstall the game for unrelated reasons, which didn't help and is also not the point.)

Anyway, I couldn't make the cc show up either, and I'm not sure why.  I didn't get an error, just no item at all, and in a new user folder that only had the mods framework and a couple of NRaas mods.  I'm not sure what else to try, unfortunately.

And you're absolutely not being a bother.  This delay is all about my not managing to finish when I wanted to, and there's nothing wrong with bumping a thread if you don't get a reply.

Hi, thank you so much for your response and effort 🙂

I still haven't managed to make it work either.. What I can try to do is move the folders from my laptop (on which the cc does work) to a usb and see if those files works on my pc? I'm not too familiar with all of that just yet but it's worth a shot I guess

@nynkeglas  That's definitely worth trying.  In your position, I'd first compress (zip) the Mods folder and transfer it, and if that doesn't work, zip the entire Sims 3 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts and transfer it.  Compressing the folder helps prevent the files inside from being damaged during transfer, which is unusual but does occur.

    Hi there,

As this thread is still active, I thought I'd respond because of some miracle last night, I managed to fix this issue. It is more of a technical fix, but essentially the resource.cfg and the fact that I had my CC package files in sub folders was the error in my case. (Even though I'd been using subfodlers for a while, after one crash I guess my game decided to just stop allowing that. Anywho...)

So, after doing some research I saw that the Mods folder only allows for one subfolder (still unsure if this is true for all cases..), and so I edited the resource.cfg to expand that limit. First I created a backup of the resource.cfg file. Then edited the original resource.cfg file with a text editor simply to:

    Priority 500
    PackedFile *.package
    PackedFile */*.package
    PackedFile */*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*/*.package
    PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*.package

Then I saved it. And opened my game - voila. After months of trying different things, all my CC was there. Thought I would share because this seems a bit of a lesser shared fix amongst advice I have seen through my searches.

    BR,

    Carly

@peachmango53  You shouldn't need to edit resource.cfg at all.  At most, you might need to download a fresh copy, which you can get from here:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files

If that doesn't help, please post a screenshot of the folder that contains your mods and/or custom content, as in, I want to see the files themselves.  Include the address bar, above the list of files, in the screenshot as well.

@blaseblaserob  Please post screenshots of the contents of any folders that contain your missing custom content, as in, I'd like to see the files themselves.  Include the address bar, above the list of files and folders, in the screenshots.

What do you mean by address bar? I took a screencap of the packages

@blaseblaserob  You included the address bar, which in this case says ... The Sims 3 > Mods > Packages > Hair.  That looks fine, although I can see that your files are being synced with OneDrive, which isn't ideal.  So please try pausing OneDrive syncing while testing.  You can find the option by right-clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.

With OneDrive syncing paused, make sure that your custom content is still present in the Mods folder, and see whether it loads in-game.  If the content isn't there, or the items don't show in-game, download fresh copies.  If that doesn't help, get rid of the Hair folder and dump everything in the Packages folder.

If that doesn't work either, get rid of the entire Mods folder and set up a new framework, including a freshly-downloaded resource.cfg, then add the files to that.  You can find a copy of the Mods Framework here:

    http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files

And if none of that makes a difference, right-click the Mods folder and select Properties > General, then post the Location you see.
