I ran Origin as Admin and made sure it was whitelisted for my firewall. My firewall has no problem, that's all good.
I did as you suggested and tried downloading Plants Vs Zombies, that too failed. I had recently installed Origin (as I had to buy a new laptop...) So I am no closer to finding out what is wrong.
