Re: [Resolved] Sims 3 expansion/stuff pack download error

I was trying to download the Sims 3 on the EA app all morning, but when I went to download the game and three of its packs - Pets, High End Loft, and the Late Night Expansion Pack - when I got an error after downloading the game and the Pets pack saying "Something Went Haywire". I restarted the app five different times, uninstalled the game and tried redownloading it, even recovered the EA app twice. I even tried to look for answers but I couldn't find any and I don't know why Im even getting the error. It also messes with my download manager and makes it so all I see is a loading symbol. I uninstalled it again and downloaded just the Sims 3, which worked, but then when I tried downloading the pets expansion, the error popped up again. This is after I downloaded the Sims 4 and all its expansion packs without issue yesterday. Can anyone help me with this?

I've been having the same issue. Origin app my library for sims 3 packs missing, so I download EA app and they show in my collection, tried to download and I get the same error message. All I know from talking to EA multiple times is that they say they are aware and are trying to fix it. But it's been 2 days for me so feels hopeless atm.

But what I don't get is why my Sims 4 library is fine but not my Sims 3?

I'm also having the same issue. I've tried contacting EA through email and they gave me options I've already tried and then cut off the email conversation so that I couldn't reply to them through that same thread. I doubt anything will change if I email them again. I'm thinking of calling them Monday to see if this is an EA issue they're working on since so many people have it.

Also, I've been wondering, I have Windows 10 right now, if I upgrade to Windows 11 will that change anything? Are all Sims 3 players having this issue or is it just a select amount?

Btw, my game and expansions were working fine at first, I originally uninstalled and ran into this because my Sims3Packs weren't installing. Wish I just accepted the issue and moved on because now I can't play with anything, store content or expansions.

  • @bkook74 hey there - i updated my computer to windows 11 yesterday as i am having the same issues as everyone else with the EA app not downloading expansion packs. At first, I was just trying to re-download the sims 3 from origin onto my computer (with windows 10), and it wouldnt work at all. So i fully updated my computer, and the base game downloaded just fine - then, i switched to the EA app since origin still was not giving me the option to download my packs, and i still cannot download them through the EA app.

Clearly this is not a computer problem, it is EA's problem. So sad ☹️

is there a way i can get a refund because i just bought the sims 3 and a couple expansion packs and just like the rest of you it isn't working and i don't want my money to go to waste

edit: i was able to apply for refunds

  • @lalabruhh That’s good you can get yr money back at least. I can’t get a refund because I bought my packs so long ago, but for new purchases it’s good 👍

I just moved and thought this was due to a slower internet connection. Glad to find this thread and hope there is a resolution soon. I was also attempting to do a clean re-install of my game. The base game downloaded and installed fine, however the expansion packs will not download and the store items I downloaded from the old sims 3 website will not install. Same error as given in this thread.

  • Def a copy paste response

    • I do understand your concern here, few other players have reported this issue as well, however, the good news here is that the team is already aware of it and I would request you to please wait for some time our team will reach once it is done.

      Like seriously?

@discordious don't get me wrong all the props to the team in charge of answering the barrage of complaints they no doubt are receiving regarding this issue ongoing, but the canned replies almost add insult to injury.

It's been a constant issue for months now, especially now that Origin is unavailable to download via EA. It *feels* like EA is ignoring this glaring issue! I personally have just bought the Supernatural expansion and transfered my sims 3 to the EA app. All the fixes like "oh just reinstall origin!" don't work. It's a bit tiring, and I want to play my new dlc!

I actually wrote them an email from the HELP section.  A day later I got a response!  It was simply a link to this very thread.  Nothing else.

Right now, it's World Adventures and Generations that won't download for me.  Last week it was Late Night, and I bought a digital copy (not just a key) from Amazon and it did NOT go through Origin.  The EA app seemed to recognize it and now it's in my game.  I can't find any other expansion pack download site that doesn't go thru Origin.

It looks to me like they don't want to bother with a 12-year-old game that everyone already owns when they can direct their attention to all the new, big $$ games and customers.  I've heard Rock Star is doing that same thing to some of their older games.

I mentioned this in another reply, but I'm thinking now that EA doesn't want to bother with a 13-year-old program that everyone already owns when they can concentrate on the big, new $$$.

Exactly!  I have this horrible feeling that EA isn't even going to bother with this...

How can I get a refund... Just bought an expansion pack and its doing the same thing...

  • For a refund call their help/service number. I don't recall what it was but I found it from a google search. Press the button about making a purchase and then explain your issue and that you would like a refund because the game is not playable. They should give you one no problem, I purchased a game 10/20 and was refunded after finding out I couldn't play when I called their number. It is a little concerning, though. Seeing as they're fine with issuing refunds almost as if it won't be solved.

  • Yep, well it's not getting any better as I was told the exact same thing today.
