Re: "Sims 3 has stopped working"

@AmiahSandefur  Alright, with everything you've done, it's probably a good idea to set your user files aside for now, and just see if you can launch the game with a clean folder.  Please ditch CCMagic as well, at least for now—it could certainly be the cause of your issues.

If you pull your entire TS3 game folder out of Documents and onto your desktop, a clean folder will spawn the next time you play.  Try to load a new town, and then play for a bit, just to make sure it's working.  If it is, then you can start rebuilding your mods and custom content.  It's best to download fresh copies of the files; add a few at a time, make sure the game still works, and then add a few more.  With only a couple dozen files, you really don't need to add CCMagic at all, unless you want it for other reasons.

Each time you add content to your game folder, make sure to delete the five cache files inside.  For reference, they are:

  • CASPartCache.package
  • compositorCache.package
  • scriptCache.package
  • simCompositorCache.package
  • socialCache.package

If you add a batch of custom content and your game doesn't launch, one of those files is probably broken or incompatible with your patch level.  You'll need to split up that batch and test it until you've found and removed the problem file.

If you can't even launch the game, or keep running into errors, with a clean game folder, then it might be time for a clean uninstall and reinstall.  Depending on what "many other things" you've tried, you could have deleted essential TS3 files.  After uninstalling, you'll need to clean your computer's registry, either manually or with a tool like Piriform's CCleaner (free download).
