Forum Discussion

@Sunny_Rio  The forum has two categories because that's about as much as is needed given the overall traffic.  And since Sims 3 is out of development and has been for almost a decade, there's no point in reporting bugs or requesting new features.

Anyway, if you'd like to get around the requirement, you can use one of three mods.  NRaas Traveler has the option to pause the trip's timer, and it's a good idea to use Traveler anyway in any save when sims will be traveling at all.  To see the option, click the base camp lot tag and select NRaas > Traveler > Pause Travel > True.  Your sims won't be forced to return home until you unpause or send them back manually.

Another option is to set your sim's visa level to 3, or whatever you want, with NRaas DebugEnabler.  Click on the sim and select NRaas > DE > Options: Smartphone > Add/Set Visa Level > [world] > [the level you want].  Keep in mind this may wipe the record of any adventures your sim has completed in that vacation world.

Finally, you can use NRaas Retuner to change the number of days for each visa level.  The path will be something like this:

NRaas > Retuner > Settings > General > By Tunable XML > Sims3.Gameplay.Visa > TravelUtil > kTravelDurations > [level] > [number of days]

Note that that will drive up the cost of the vacation proportional to the number of days: 100 per day in China, 200 in Egypt, 300 in France.  This can be tuned as well, under kCostOfTravelingPerDay in the same path in Retuner.  You could also make yourself a standalone tuning mod to reflect these changes.

You can find more information about Traveler and Retuner, and download links, here:

Thanks, I'll try that if the max visa doesn't end up long enough.  I'll just work my way up for now or it seems like cheating.  Maybe France doesn't like America and my Sim is assumed to be American.  I'm from the UK, maybe they like us, although I was told to always say I'm Scottish not English, I think there was a small war which never got anywhere involving big ships with cannons.

@Sunny_Rio  Or perhaps the developers thought it would be fun to try to "earn" extra vacation days.  It's just a game.

Yes, I admit I like the idea of earning the vacation days, which is why I won't install the workaround you helpfully suggested unless it annoys me.  But there must be a more realistic implementation.  Maybe if he's on a work visa it would make sense, after all he is exploring and finding relics (and stealing them from the country!).  Do you eventually earn an infinite stay visa if you get enough visa points?

P.S. are we the only two users left in here?

@Sunny_Rio  The maximum vacation length is 18 days.  Visa 3 grants 12 days total, and the Prepared Traveler lifetime reward and the Certificate of Partnership you can buy from the special merchant each grant 3 extra days.  You could of course use Retuner to set one of these to 100 days or whatever you like.

There's not much traffic on this forum, and I'm the only regular helper, although others come by here and there.  The forum does have a few repeat customers, so to speak, and lots of users asking one-off questions.

18 days is 2.5 of my 7 day seasons, probably enough, I'll earn that slowly to be more realistic.

Do you get seasons on vacation?  I've gone from home to France and been surprised it's gone from winter to summer.  Assuming home is in the USA or some other northern hemisphere country, and so is France, it suggests seasons switches off for vacation.

@Sunny_Rio  I believe seasons are present in WA worlds by default, but the in-game time may start from scratch there.  Just like it's always Sunday on the first day your first sim is in a WA world, it may also be summer on that first day because that's where the game always starts.

Traveler has a setting to allow seasons, and NRaas Tempest allows you to set seaonal profiles on a per-world basis.  So if you don't want snow in Egypt, you can adjust accordingly.

If you want to change the season on the fly, enter the testingcheatsenabled true cheat, shift-click on the ground, and select whatever you like.

Looks like Tempest doesn't have the obvious, make the holiday start in the same season as you're currently in at home.

@Sunny_Rio  Right, because each world is running on its own clock, or at least I think so.  But you can just change the season to whatever you want with a cheat.

Pity, since Sims 4 was a flop.  I look forward (maybe) to 5.
