I adopted a kid using my computer, my sim went off the lot and the screen came up asking if I wanted to rename the sim, which I didn't. I got the credit for adopting (i'm working on the big happy family) but she isn't in my household and I can't find her anywhere in the game. I've even checked my sims friends to see if I could find her on there but it's not.
Added. Did you go traveling somehwere to see if that makes the child show up ?
I just had this same issue. The mother sim left to get the baby. I got the message that my sim family has grown, but the baby never appeared in the bassinet. The baby also doesn't show up at the bottom of the screen where all of the members of the household are shown.
I tried travelling to another lot, and still no baby.

I had exited my game when this happened and when I got back on it was there
