I was getting this just earlier today, sim kept obsessing over the "put down" autonomous action on a toddler who happened to be sitting in a lounge chair. It isn't even a high chair...toddler can get off a lounge chair just fine by itself...surely adults do not need to even get this urge to "rescue" toddlers from lounge chairs.
Sim kept cancelling my manually assigned actions to try and drag themselves off to the toddler.
I couldn't even find the "put down" action that was causing this when searching via MCCC. I have tried to nix the problematic toddler actions previously and have got rid of the pesky and completely useless "check toddler" actions which freed up my sims a ton, however this particular action appears to be immune to searches and entirely invisible.
I agree with OP - can we please make manually assigned actions NOT get cancelled off the action list every time sim decides to do something moronic?
@khitteh Thank you for clicking "Me Too" on this post. I am sorry your game is affected by this bug as well. This "Put Down" obsession is the same issue that made the high chairs unusable (at least in my game) because adults would not allow a toddler to sit in a high chair long enough to be fed.
...and now, it happens with ALL chairs, even the little bear chairs that are supposed to be for kids. I've got 3 toddlers in my household right now, and this "Put Down" thing is a real game breaker.
The problem began in my game BEFORE I started using mods. I, too, installed several mods trying to fix the bug. Mods improved the equally disruptive and pointless "Check Toddler" obsession, but like you said, this particular "Put Down" interaction does seem to be "invisible" even to mods like MCCC that fix sooooo many problems with the game's autonomy system.
Sure, we could turn off autonomy, but that would kill the game for me. Some of the best moments in my story have happened BECAUSE of autonomy, so deactivating it entirely would take the life out of the game.
On the other side of that same coin, every major problem that has occurred in my game has been because autonomy overrides player directed actions, and when player input gets disregarded in favor of autonomous actions that essentially render the game unplayable, what we've really got is not a game at all, but a very expensive cartoon.
In my game, the "Put Down" interaction also freezes the toddlers and prevents them from carrying out assigned actions, too. I nearly had toddlers taken away over this nonsense.
The toddler had already gotten off of the bear chair in the nursery on her own, but she could not go take her meal off the coffee table in the nursery until all the adults in the house completed the "Put Down" interaction...meaning all 4 of them dropped everything from their queues to go pick up and put down a toddler who was standing on the floor NEXT to a chair.
...and of course, when more than one sim tries to complete the same autonomous action, the entire game gets locked up, everyone stands around bobbing their heads, and no one does anything...but the clock keeps ticking and needs keep dropping regardless.
When an autonomous action can't be canceled and continues to come back immediately after resetting the sim, there's literally nothing a player can do but sit and wait and hope the autonomy deadlock resolves itself before the kids starve to death.
It's completely backwards.
I have 4 adults and 3 toddlers in my household. "Put Down" has completely destroyed my game. In the case of the toddler who could not eat due to 4 adults being in a "Put Down" deadlock because the toddler had been sitting in a bear chair previously, I ended up having to cheat the toddler's hunger need and ultimately had to shut down the game entirely, because the "Put Down" deadlock went on for 6 sim hours and completely froze everything.
But the autonomous actions can't be canceled. Even if you try to cancel them, the sim will complete them anyway or the same action will queue up again immediately.
Player directed actions, though? Those get dropped consistently, usually in favor of some game breaking autonomous obsession.
Again, completely backwards.
I've managed to work around those obsessions for the most part, largely thanks to MCCC, but because "Put Down" is "invisible" I haven't found a way to stop it, and it completely takes over (and destroys) my game.
Again, this bug happens without mods, too. It began before I started using mods, and stuff like this is the reason I resorted to using mods to begin with...but unfortunately, "Put Down" is unstoppable, even by MCCC, so houses with toddlers are basically unplayable if you've got any kind of seating on the lot.
I decided last night that next time I launch the game, I'm going to go ahead and age my toddlers up early so my game will be playable again. I've been battling the "Put Down" bug to no avail for months now, and I've had all I can take. I just want to be able to play again.
It's truly a shame. I've been playing since Sims 2, and the TS4 toddlers are by far the best the franchise has ever developed (and are actually my favorite lifestage in the game) but the "Put Down" nightmare destroys that and makes the game impossible to play. ☹️
I know there were a few patches that affected chairs a while back. My guess is that this bug happened with one of those patches. In my second generation, only the high chairs were affected by the autonomous "Put Down" obsession, so my Gen 2 toddlers couldn't use high chairs. Somewhat unfortunate, yes, but ultimately not a big deal.
Now that "Put Down" has been expanded to include ALL chairs, trying to play my Gen 3 toddler households has been a game breaking nightmare. Toddler "gameplay" is nothing but "Put Down" autonomy deadlock now.
I'd like to hope this gets fixed, but I doubt it will. Here's to hoping more players who are having this problem chime in the way you did, and one of the modders finds a way to fix it for us.
Thanks again. 🙂
