    This thread has become a bit of a mess .. many issues are fixed and I don't know if anything was address in the patch 1.36 that's not in the notes.

    At this point, I think it's better to have separate threads for restaurant issues which is why I'm going to lock this thread.

    Please open separate threads for any issues still occurring for restaurants.

I updated an old diner with the Dine Out content and I just spent about THREE HOURS trying to figure out why the host was leading guests into the kitchen and doing the "no route" animation, essentially making the guests bug out because they then become un-servable/un-seatable.

Turns out the host was trying to seat the guests at the outdoor seating... Before I added a door leading outside from the kitchen room, I kept getting routing failures because the host would not use the front door to lead guests outside, but try to do it through the kitchen, which of course did not have any doors leading outside, because why on earth would it. There are obviously plenty of available booths, chairs and bar stools inside the venue, yet the game prioritizes outdoor seating that's the furthest from the host station? Seems like a weird oversight (and a massive inconvenience).

      Not yet. I really dislike having sims sit outside when I worked hard on the interior, plus they look stupid eating in complete darkness during evening and night time, so I think the finished venue I'm going to upload I'm going to disable outdoor seating (probably replace chairs with loveseats so sims can't sit but the outdoor seating will remain for aesthetics).

      I can upload the tray files of this version if you'd like.

      ETA: I've done a bit more testing and it appears that the booths are "reserved" for larger groups of sims. Basically any 1 or 2 sims who came to dine will 99% be directed to the outdoor seating, whereas groups of 3 and 4 will be seated in the booths with ease. Another thing - when I as an owner try to be seated, I'm sat in the booth too.

      P.P.S. Yap, as soon as I disabled those chairs outside (I manually replaced them so that they're there, but not actually connected to the tables, thus not usable), sims are seated in the booths without issues, however, they only seem to sit on the chairs, not the booth seats.

      In play testing my restaurant, I did notice that the first couple to show up at the restaurant got seated outside, and those tables are also furthest away from my hosting station.  However, the next couple was seated at a table inside, and there were 3 more empty tables outside, so I just chalked it up to randomness.  I have an assortments of tables and booth seating throughout the restaurant, so my build would probably not be the best one to notice a problem in.  I would be more interested to look at the routing issue with the front door vs. having to open up access via the kitchen.  Is there maybe some programming in there that tries to keep the host from exiting the main entrance?  I could see how with certain restaurant designs (like mine), it would look incredibly weird to have the host lead people right back out the door they just came through... 

      As for the seating prioritization, there might be some routing reasons behind why sims are prioritized first to chairs and then to booths.  I had a situation where testing where I had a sim sitting in a booth seat and wanted another sim to sit by him.  He was sitting at the outside portion (I had created my own version of a corner booth), and the other sim popped up with a thought bubble that he was being blocked by the guy.  I manually had the guy move over, and then the other one was able to sit just fine, but it seems like they might not be programmed to move over automatically, the way they do on couches, etc.  Maybe we can ask a guru...

        @BryonyRae The way my diner is set up, I have 4 straight booths with tables and chairs attached to each (no corner booths), and several bar stools attached to a 4-tile bar and island counters indoors. Then the tables with chairs outside. It seems 90% of my guests who come alone or in pairs are walked outside. Never seen anyone walked towards a barstool, although I have seen sims pick up their drink, walk to the bar and sit there, then get up and sit back at the outdoor table.

    I have a selection of 2 and 4-person tables in my restaurant. However, I've noticed that frequently a 2 person party is seated at a 4-person table, even if a 2-person table is available. Likewise (but a little less frequently), a 3 or 4-person party may be split between 2 2-person tables even if a 4-person table is available. This second issue also causes the sims within the party to get up and talk to one another quite often, impeding the flow of restaurant traffic.

      Is this your active party that gets split or NPCs ?

      NPCs just love to talk to each other, it's not necessarily the same party.

      I've never seen a group of more than 3 people (and three people groups always involve one child for me)

      EDIT: @ravenshadow723 Also merged your thread. Not exactly the same but it has to do with seating the Sims in a way that doesn't make much sense.

        It is solely NPC parties - I'm just managing the restaurant. Usually it's the Bjergsen family or the Goth family that gets split, which is why I assume they are one party. Also, the fact that the hostess seats all of the family at the same time, even though it's at two different tables makes me think they are one party. I've never seen her seat 2 different parties at once.

        Now that I think of it, I've only seen (what I assume was) a 4-person party once - and that was the entire Bjergsen family. Maybe it was two parties? Usually I get a party of 3 Bjergsens/Goths and one of them ends up at a table alone... And it's sad when it's a kid!
