Well, it's certainly a tough choice. It's probably better to be alive, with bad grades, than dead with no grades.
I would try attending the final exam, and hope for the best, then exit without saving if it ended up killing him. The second time, I would probably send him to class about 30 minutes late, so he wouldn't be in the sun quite as long,
For the future, I would recommend studying vampire lore as much as possible until you unlock the Sun Reversal recipe. That's almost certainly faster than getting Sun Resistance.

Thanks! I'll definitely work on the vampire lore, he's got all the geeky traits (I want him to be a supervillain/high society vampire) so that shouldn't be too hard. Hopefully he can graduate Uni first though lmao.
