Edit: I noticed that since the April 13 update, Sims also seem to be drinking milk and orange juice autonomously even when Hunger is in the green.
Back in December 2014, a rule from the update has been added to prevent Sims from drinking from the fridge autonomously but it appears that this rule is broken notably as of GTW/version 1.5.
It happened in my game where I had two Sims, Rebecca and Ashley. Rebecca made a Sunset Valley and then I put it on the fridge, later I spotted Ashley drinking the Sunset Valley despite the rule stating that Sims will no longer drink from the fridge. Unfortunately, EA partially altered the rule. While it was supposed to prohibit Sims from drinking from the fridge autonomously, it doesn't stop them from attempting to make drinks or drink any drinks and they'll do this regardless of Hunger levels.
To get around this problem, I moved the Bar to the Household Inventory so that the Sims would not make any drinks. I only take it out to do Rebecca's daily task or to make potions. I've made a thread at The Sims forums discussing this issue.
This is one of the bugs that didn't get fixed in the March 26 update. However, Sims drinking from the fridge autonomously might be a bug.

I'm not sure but I've noticed that since the April 13 update that some of my Sims are drinking milk and orange juice even when their hunger is in the green.

The problem still remain in July 9 update. Also about the issue of Sims drinking Milk and Orange Juice, it might be caused with Get to Work being installed. I'm not sure if Sims drink Milk or Orange Juice without GTW but Simmers have reported Milk/OJ would often be drunk since GTW.

I've never replied to this thread but I did add it.

In December the Thirst was corrected via patch. Sims autonomously drank from the fridge & cooler often when hunger bars were green.
Over time this causes weight gain & was corrected in the Dec. patch.
When Get to Work was introduced, the thirst issue returned & has remained ever since. Could this be re-addressed please?

- Sims will no longer autonomously choose to drink potions or herbalism drinks.
Since this is in today's (1.15.55) Patch notes, I'm thinking this might not bee a bug and was changed back on purpose.
I will mark this as unclear for now and see if I can get some info.

I am worried my Sim may be an alcoholic. Ever since I started leveling their mixology skill, they have autonomously begun creating drinks at any moment of downtime, and that is a lot. Sometimes they will make 8-10 drinks a day. But perhaps alcoholic is not the right word, because they never actually consume any of the beverages they whip up, they just leave them on the bar to spoil. Mixoholic perhaps? Regardless, while this might have been a welcome tick while they were completing the Master Mixologist ambition, that is done, and the $200-$300 that is spent on wasted drinks is an expense I could do without. Please help.

My Sims must be raving alcoholics, they get up in the mornings, to make breakfast, instead they make an alcoholic drink, then another, and another, each time the "make pancakes" disappears and another drinks is made.

I just got Get To Work when it was on sale, and my doctor sim stops in the middle of patient exams to get water or soda even when he's FULL. I cancel it out when I see it, but he drops the Examine Patient action I just queued to go fetch MORE water. This is seriously annoying, espeically since all these actions take so much time already. He hasn't enough time in a day to treat 3 patients!

and with the new update from June 2016 where they can drink water from the tab, they do that all the time too + getting milk and orange juice and autonomously start mixing drinks as well. I wish they didn't do that.

My sims are drinking water now from kitchen and bathroom sinks, and they will do this for no reason. Sometimes they will grab a glass right after they have eaten. My pregnant sim will drink water until her bladder nearly explodes.

Maybe there's a good reason to have a sink in some expansion pack somewhere that I don't have, but for me, there's no benefit to having a sink, so the houses I play don't have them. They just waste time. So, as a workaround, maybe consider getting rid of your sinks.

I've had this as well. Also annoying, they'll take water out of the fridge/sink and set it down (and go back and do it multiple times). So, you end up with a big mess. >.<

My Sims are getting water/drinks so frequently that I'm surprised no one has died from bathroom embarrassment. I had to remove all sinks from their houses and then they just get drinks from the fridge. Sometimes they cancel an action to go get a drink. It's been happening since Dine Out.

As of the Nov 15, 2016 patch, it's still happening, however not so much out of the fridge anymore, so this might need to go under a different topic.
Whenever anybody comes to my apartment because I've given them an apartment key (City Living), they're constantly going to a sink and drinking glass after glass of water, and not doing much else. I'm constantly cleaning up after my otherwise perfectly lovely friends.
I thought that maybe because it was a tiny starter apartment with not much in it, that's all they could do apart from watch TV, but I had another family in a much bigger apartment and it still seemed to happen, but not as much. I tried curbing the drinking with dancing which worked a bit
I'm not entirely sure whether this has started happening because I've installed City Living, but the problem is definitely more prevalent because of it, now that my friends can come over whenever they want to. I never really asked my friends over before now.

My sims as well are excessively drinking water. Have nothing to do for 5 minutes? Get a glass of water. Leave it somewhere because you got distracted. Get another glass of water.

Hi,
In EP03 City Living, each time the sims come (Given key event), they spend their time to drink water.
It's annoying, they can't talk more than 5 seconds without going to get a water glass.Drink water is more important than the social interactions.

I'v given up trying to interact with apartment visitors in CL. I cancel the event as soon as it pops up. All that they want to do is get multiple glasses of water - which they don't even finish drinking - just put down their glass and go get another. They're so obsessed with water it's hard to get they to do anything else.
