It seems to be random items disappear, and at any time. I notice missing items most often when I first go into my game after I have been playing with the same lot/family several days in a row.
I otherwise don't notice anything missing and just figure that I may have forgotten to buy it! I have been thinking all these years that I just forgot!!! Blamed myself when in fact, I clearly noticed that the "missing items were in their home yesterday when I played" . This happened 2 days in a row, with the same family. I always delete the localthumbcache.package before I start playing! I will try to play without deleting the localthumbcache and see if items still disappear.

Every now and then, if I delete an empty bookcase and replace it, the books regenerate. Unfortunately it isn't consistent.
I agree. This is very random with no real apparent reason(s) that makes sense as to the cause of it, at least from my layman's point of view... as I am not able to understand the inner workings of the codes these items are given to function or coexist with other objects in the game. I found it happens when we go into build/buymode to add or remove items, when a sim leaves a lot to visit another location and comes back, or when we exit out of the game and return the same day or the next day.
Like you, I also delete the localthumbcache.package before I start playing.... when I remember to, which is most of the time. But, even on the times I forget to delete the caches... these items still disappear.
What is so frustrating is I am soooo wanting to play with my apartment complexes I made but can't until this gets addressed. And again... we've had two updates and then the latest update after those for the cozy celebration event which also included some more updates and yet... still no fix for this one. As such... two more expansions and two more kits were released and I won't buy any of them or any others until this gets resolved. I don' t want to buy any additional headaches. I am just glad to see that so far the cozy celebration is working. Ooops! Hope I didn't speak too soon on that!
