Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Get to Work and all the Free Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Create a new game. Have a sim join the science carrier and go to work several days in a row. Also, have sim visit parks and other places that spawn wild plants.
What happens when the bug occurs? The plants on public lots are not producing harvestables. My sim is a scientist and has not been able to water or harvest the plants at work since the first day of work. He can fertilize, splice, graft and take a sample. Because of this, I cannot always fulfill daily tasks. I can not "order co-workers to garden" or water plants. It's like the plants' needs never decay. The plants only produced harvestable once after my sim initially watered them. The plants lived without needing to be watered or producing harvestables for my sims entire adult life stage and then died. When they died they did not turn brown, they still looked alive but started having green stink fumes coming off of them and when I clicked on them the only option was to "dispose of dead plant." When my sim visits a park or other public areas, none of the plants have even sprouted. They grow while my sim is on the lot, but when they reach maturity they do not produce fruit. Like at work, my sim can take a cutting or microscope sample but there are no harvestable. The plants growing wild around my sims home lot do produce fruit. And the plants my sim planted on his lot produce fruit and need occasional watering. This is making it practically impossible to complete the gardening collection since I am also experiencing an issue with grafted plants not producing the third harvestable. (I posted on another thread to report that issue.)
What do you expect to see? I expect plants on public lots to produce harvestables. I expect plants at my sims science career to have needs decay so my sim can water them, and I expect them to produce harvestables.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Began happening after the most recent patch in June.
I also noticed that when my sim has been at another lot and comes home all the plants are dripping like they have just been overwatered but I don't know if that is doing anything or is just a weird animation.

Hi @Hannahart
merged your post with the science lab one (as this was your main report).
There's also one for wild harvestables: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Wild-plants-don-t-look-harvested-and-no-max-harvestables/m-p/6879401#M65091 and for festivals: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-CL-Festival-Plants-No-Longer-Harvestable/m-p/6872377#M63496

Just curious here, but when will this issue be fixed/resolved? I'm still having issues and haven't harvested any of the work plants in quite a while.

Me too! And this report is almost the same for me- I noticed this issue back when I started playing the science career in December 2023.

If the scientist task system that takes fresh produce into account can't be implemented because the crops in all worlds only ripen once a day and before the scientists arrive at work, then there are obvious solutions:
1. Scientists should start work earlier (4am? 11pm on the night shift?).
2. Plants should automatically go into the fruiting state every time the workstation (lab) is loaded.
3. On the hidden workstation (lab) type lot, plants ripen on a different schedule than plants in the rest of the world. (Because they are scientists, they don't have everything like regular sims.)
4. Introduce delivery to the base game (or to the "Get to Work" expansion), make this delivery free for the lab type lot in terms of fresh plants of the required quality.
There have been many solutions to this problem over the 6 years of its existence. I don't understand why this hasn't been done yet?
It's always easier to say that your Sim works as a scientist - it's your problem that you chose this job. Or figure out how to complete work assignments yourself.
