GUYS I FOUND OUT A TEMPORARY SOLUTION. You *can* save before you close, even after freezing!
If you pop out your gaming window to be a window and not full screen (google how to do this, changes depending on operating system), then you can click the X in the corner and it'll confirm if you want to save and exit! So you don't have to force quit or turn your computer off! ♥

EDIT: It may corrupt your game but you can still right click then repair the game in the EA hub and that should fix it. I wouldn't want to do all of this regularly given the time constraints but I might be desperate enough depending on how long I'd gone since my last save!
