My Sim was present when her husband died. His daughter pleaded with the Grim Reaper and his life was spared. My Sim was still given the mourning moodlet even though the Sim did not die.
He received the Brush With Death moodlet.
Guess that's the same bug that also triggers the condolence messages to still be triggered.
