I'm pretty late to this thread so by now I'm sure you've either figured out a work-around or someone has (hopefully) fixed this issue. Regardless, I JUST ran into this issue today and about had an aneurysm trying to figure out how to make this stop happening.
I chose "sell furniture," it told me my remaining funds were about 30K Simoleans AFTER moving. I get to the new lot and it says I only have 11K Simoleans. Dude, absolutely infuriating.
After they moved to the new lot, I looked at the old lot and wouldn't you know.... all of the furniture was STILL THERE. So it never sold. That menu is completely bugged out right now. Or maybe it's connected to a MOD or to tiny home residentials. I'm not sure. But regardless. Never ran into this problem until today so SOMETHING is glitched out.
What I ended up doing was bulldozing the whole lot BEFORE moving, so that essentially the game had no option but to give me the correct money. This ended up working. But this is insanely annoying considering there are already a million issues with this game 🙂
