[ARCHIVED] Toddler Ask to read book interaction cancels

Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.108.349.1220
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? ALL
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Control a toddler and ask their parent to "Ask to read book". The bug happens even when both are standing already together and there is enough space around them. It happens while standing and also if the parent sits down. It happens also when both have full maxed needs and there are no other interactions queued.
What happens when the bug occurs? The parent takes out a toddler book, (sometimes sits down on a chair if one is closeby) waits a few seconds, and then cancels the "read to child" interaction. Toddler has the "Listen to story" interaction queued which then gets cancelled too. None of both have other new interactions queued in that moment when the parent cancels. Note that this happens if I control the toddler and queue the interaction to the parent, and also if a toddler queues it autonomously. In both versions it cancels. It does cancel more rarely, if I control the Parent instead and start the interaction from them.
What do you expect to see? That the parent reads the book to the toddler.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I tried this with 8 toddler parent pairs in different households with different skills, non-occults and occults, different moodlets / no moodles, and all tests were without mods and with localthumb deleted. The interaction always canceled when the Toddler asks the parent to read a book, and it sometimes also cancels if it is the other way around and the parent queues the "read toddler book", but works more often that way around. Sometimes I used the same seat location to ask from the parent side and it worked, but then asked from the toddler side and it cancelled.

EDIT: I had it working once now as a toddler asking the parent, when the toddler asked while the parent was already sitting on a couch.

    5 months later this is still happening, too often, no mods, I have tried repair, and still no improvement, they did do some bug fixes, and I looked what bugs/glitches they fixed, they did not fix this issue at all. very annoying, hope they come across this and fix it

    I've seen this happening for a long long time, and it's not only the "read book" interaction (though it is indeed the most notorious) but basically any activity (flash cards, potty train, etc) with the exception of the parenthood pack activities (teach to say sorry/please-thank you). The dialogue between the adult and minor asking to do something (no matter who's asking whom) queues, nothing happens for a while and then it cancels, it takes a few tries to get the sims ask each other, AND in the case of the "read book" interaction, that one is yet another round of queue-wait-cancel. In my case I've seen that having the toddler sit on a toddler bed or a couch before asking to read a book seems to make it work more often. So, it is not game breaking but definitely very bugged and annoying.

    It's now also happening when I try and direct a Sim to bathe the Toddler Sim. I haven't tested if the toddler asking works, but I think this is the same mechanism as the book glitch (the interaction is cancelled/falls out of queue for seemingly no reason, even when a Sim has nothing else queued up).

    I'm having this issue too. I'm pretty certain the Toddler's final hidden quirk is the one where they like stories, but she can't unlock it because every time she either asks one of her caregivers or one of her caregivers tries to read to her, whether autonomously or through me clicking on the option in the menu, it doesn't work. It only works with the "Read to Sleep" interactions. I have no mods, have never used mods on this save, and this issue has persisted through patches and I believe a game repair too. I play on PC with fewer packs (the only ones I do not have are Lovestruck, Batuu, Crystal Creations and any kit aside from Desert Luxe and Blooming Rooms).
