i also noticed it started back with in the city i believe, i’m all for diversity as i myself am east asian but it’s kinda weird when EVERY sim has specifically asian culture names but are different races or ethnicities also most times in my game i’ll get a white ginger and they’ll have a japanese first name and indian surname and that’s not a casual fluke that’s EVERY SIM i suggest EA getting that sorted as well as the ugly outfits of most townies maybe having them spawn in with the preset outfits as their only options and preset faces and bodies?
Hence me playing university for the first time after installing both discover university and island living on the same day, and nearly all my dormmates and many of my club teammates seemed to be from Sulani.
And then once you get past that initial glut you get the weird grab bag of cultural traits thing where it keeps spawning townie families where no one looks alike and the names are from a mix of the cultural lists that don't even correspond to the appearance of the sims.
I don't have Snowy Escape so I can't comment on if it's more out of control with that pack than the others, but there's definitely room for improvement with townie generation.

This is by game design, as EA intended, like it or not it's not a bug.

I'm sure this is by design, but it's an issue of balance. I'm fine with having these Asian names sprinkled in occasionally, but literally 90% of my generated townies all share the same (small) pool of Japanese, Indian, etc. names. It's very immersion-breaking, especially when the name doesn't match the face. Yes I can overlap this by downloading pre-made townies, but it gets very exhausting when you're a generational player.

So obviously this is not the worst bug in the game right now, but WHY can’t they fix this?! Seriously, this has been an issue for years and just needs some tuning. In my game about 80% of townies that spawn have Japanese names, and I don’t visit Mt Komorebi very often. I actually notice it most in the university students that are generated and the paparazzi. I just want some diversity! Why are there no Chinese or Korean names? More European names? I do get some Indian, Arabic and Hispanic sims, but I’m so sick of deleting the 1000th sim with the same Japanese name when I’m not even playing in Mt. Komorebi.
