My sim started the scientist career at level 1, which is supposed to pay $24/hr. Granted, she's not great at her job (I'm more there to collect crystals/metals/etc. than to fulfill the goals), but she only gets paid $33/day for an 9 hour work day (sometimes 11 hours if I let her stay late). I started another new game with a different sim and was able to duplicate the issue. My original sim has not been promoted yet (as I said, she's not exactly trying), so I'm not sure if the issue continues beyond level 1. No mods or CC.

I believe that the hourly wage that's listed for active careers is how much you'll earn if you do not join them at work, and send them off alone. When you're actively doing the career, it's definitely by design that it depends on how many of the goals you complete.

The first day my sim worked hard and completed a number of tasks (though I don't think enough for the "gold" level). She also stayed late, and came home with only $33. I thought maybe it was a glitch with staying late, so I sent her back the 2nd day for just the first 9 hours. She did fewer tasks that day (but still some of them) and made $33 again. After that, I didn't really care about doing tasks because there was more money to be made in collecting... so since then she hasn't done any (she eventually got fired and then I found her another job, but not before testing it on a different save/sim).

I think your salary heavily depends on the task.

Try to get her to gold to see if you still get $33

I'll try it out and let you know. Although an hourly salary should not depend on performance. That's what promotions and demotions are for...

I always got less money when I didn't do the task.

I'll test this with my own scientist (which I stupidly just sent on her own)

So, my scientist is level 10. Usually she earns around §2000 a day. I had her do none of the tasks and she earned 340. I'm going to do task as well but I think it's by design and has always been like that.

I've tested this again on my game and see no different behavior than before.

If you don't do the tasks, your performing poorly and don't get as much money.

I playtested a little last night and here's what I found - it doesn't matter how many hours you work, whether you stay late or leave early, if you complete only bronze or silver you get a specific fraction of the pay (which is in no way related to how many hours you worked - only to the task level you complete). On the other hand, if you complete gold, the hourly salary is followed so you do get paid more if you stay late. I didn't test leaving early if I complete gold, because I ran out of time, and now I'm curious about the other active careers (I'm guessing they behave the same way, but I want to try just to be sure). But I thought you'd be interested to know what I found, even if it's incomplete. 🙂

It could very well be as designed - and if so, that's totally fine (I'll just give my sim a little nudge in the right direction to improve her performance, lol). I can believe that it would be different for the active, task oriented careers. I was just confused at first because I thought my sim should be making $200+ per day and she was only getting $33. 🙂
