[BY DESIGN] "Set as Front Door" Problems

Original bug discovered was the inability to "Set as Front Door" when a raised foundation was used. This was partially fixed in a subsequent patch (details in following posts).
New Bug: Front door setting is changed when placing a build on a different orientation than its original orientation; for instance from a 30x20 lengthwise to a 30x20 widthwise (Gallery example here)

Sorry for the long title. This is what I have observed after the Dec 4th, 2015 patch. Any house that you place from either the gallery, build yourself or if you use a prebuilt house in game now has an issue with the front door. As long as the house sits at ground level, there is no problem. BryonyRae on the Sims 4 Forum has confirmed that if you raise the house up one foundation unit, there is also no problem, and I have confirmed this although if you add a one or two unit stairway, the sims tend to avoid those stairs. If you build stairs along one side of the low foundation, you can no longer set any door as the front door. If you raise the foundation more than one unit, it also removes the ability to set a door as the front door. Visitors arriving at your house seem to think that there is no door when this happens and they leave or just stand around inactive.

The only way you can restore the doors so that you can select the front door is to save the house to the gallery, and then move it back onto your land. As long as you don't use any build items on the house, the doors remain functional.

I wasn't going to post this bug as it seemed as if it was the same as an earlier found bug, where placing a railing around the door made the game think it was an inside door but I think this may be a new one. This has been tested with and without CC or core mods, and has also been confirmed by other users.

Regarding the front door changing when placing it on a lot with a different orientation, I heard that this is by design. The front door is set to whichever door is closest to the street, but you can manually set a different door to be the front door afterward.

It sounds like it might be related. I have asked the user on that thread to see what happens with the pathing if they eliminate foundations and have referred them to this thread if doing so does indeed alter the behavior. This is a nasty bug, for sure, but easily duplicated, so this should be a good thread for the devs.

I was coming over here to report this and found this post about it. Even tho it's a few months old I thought I would just reply to it instead of starting a new one for the same thing.
I ran into this problem a couple days ago when remodeling a house. After trying different things to fix it (clearing cache file and repairing the game) turns out to be the foundation causing the problem for me.
If I have the house sitting on the ground I get the set front door option but if I raise it up on a foundation I only get the option to lock the door. But sometimes after putting it on a foundation if I leave to a different zone and come back I will have the option to set the front door again until I go back into build mode then I lose the option again.

I had an issue with a teenage Sim choosing weird, extended routes every time he left the house to go to school, I believe that issue is caused by C grades as now he's back to straight A's he travels to and from the front of the house again. However, at the time I thought the house might have been glitched, so I saved it to the gallery, evicted the household, bulldozed the lot and moved them back in.

That was when I noticed there was no option to set the front door, it's on quite a high foundation and I had previously messed about with the front. Because when they first moved in the inside view of the front door dropped down completely because of the way the stairs had been placed, after moving the stairs and front porch I got the effect I was looking for (the walls stay up!) It's the huge estate house in Windenburg if anyone else has the same problem. I also moved it forwards slightly on the grid - it was all good with no problems until the I made his grades slip...

I wasn't sure what to do when I saw there was no option to set the front door, I checked all the exterior doors and none of them had the option, but then when all of the household where back inside the house I took another look at it and noticed the option to set the front door was there again. Sorry it's not a solution, but for me at least the bug fixed itself.

Looks like this is now completely broken and the only way to fix it is drop the house to ground level.

The problem seems to happen if you place a deck or room above and overhanging an outside door. It's as if the coding states that if a build item occupies a space above and in front of a door, that door is now set as an inside door. If you have a deck in front of your door, it's fine as long as you don't give it a ceiling. Once you do, your door also becomes an inside door.

The only way to correct this is to give outside doors a different code, which means you would either have to separate the doors into different groups so people know, or change the code on all doors so that inside doors could become front doors. The only other alternative that I could possibly see is to just give the first door or the last door placed in the house, front door status. This is probably why this problem hasn't been addressed before as I really can't see an elegant solution.

Yet more: Perhaps somebody else can give this some thought, and see if they can figure out how to address this problem?

I concur with your completely broken post. In my game, placing or not placing decks/rooms above the doors didn't make any difference. It was simply a matter of whether the foundation was elevated more than one notch up. The only way to get access to the functionality again was to drop the foundation back down.
