Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

Hi there.

I'm struggling with a bug in Cats & Dogs. When performing an examination on a pet, the symptom types don't match up with the type of examination performed. This has been happening since I've had the pack, regardless of whether I play on Mac or PC.

Thanks.

@raysims3 I think this has always been the case. I don't think it was programmed to actually make sense. The symptoms are just random.
  • @raysims3 Hello!  I did some testing just now and these are my results:

The first patient had three unknown symptoms.

    Examine Mouth revealed Extreme Lethargy

    Eye Exam revealed Sluggish Heartbeat

    Listen to Breathing revealed Nothing

Take Temperature revealed Inflamed Cuteness Gland

These symptoms showed a diagnosis of Woozykittyitis.  After the diagnosis there was a cure option with only one having a thumbs up.  It was a shot but I didn't capture the name.

The next patient had five unknown symptoms.

Take Temperature revealed Normal Temperature and Healthy Cuteness Levels

Listen to Heart revealed Responsive Ears, Clean Nose, and Standard Smelly Breath

In other words, this patient was healthy and the only option was the Preventative Shot.

So, I agree that the examinations performed may not match the symptoms found. However, I'm inclined to agree with @rlc77  that it's not a bug.  I think having to go through every exam to find all the related symptoms could take way too long. Probably it was set up so that some exams will reveal one or more seemingly random symptoms, while another exam may not reveal any at all, possibly to make it a bit of a challenge.  I hope this helps.

Strange, I’m sure that if you’d got your pet to be examined at the vet in real life, the symptoms would match up with the type of examination performed.

Not that I know how vets work, but this would be common sense.

@raysims3 I'm not saying it makes sense, just saying that it's probably not a bug in the sense that this is likely by design.  Although, someone from the sims team would have to confirm that.  Whatever the case may be, it is a game after all.  I'm sure that the vet in real life would also not give a diagnosis of Woozykittyitis.  Again, I think it's likely that the intent was to prevent a player from having to perform all eight exams to determine each specific symptom, mainly because of how long it takes.  In real life, time works very differently.  If each pet had to go through every exam, your sims would probably only have time to see maybe two or three patients per day.

Edit: I did another test just to see how long it takes to examine one pet.  It took my sim almost one sim hour just to calm the pet and run three exams to get a diagnosis.  If my sim had to run all  eight exams to find the exact symptoms that matched each one, it might take close to three sim hours to finish examining one pet.  Personally, I think I'd prefer to not have to do that.
