The description for Rainbow Eggs says they can be used for Rainbow Treats, however the game won't allow me to make Rainbow Treats with anything but Green, Blue plus Orange Eggs.
Tried Repair Game and Reset the save. Currently no Mods, but I may have tested some in this Save back when CoL came out.
It is inaccurate description in the Notebook. You do not use your Rainbow egg to create Animal Treat. (I was actually pondering that using Rainbow egg to create Rainbow Treat which you would feed to your Chicken would create a loop. Which one was first? The Rainbow Treat or The Rainbow Egg?) Same would be if you needed Rainbow Milk to create Rainbow Treat which would you give to your cow to give you Rainbow Milk...
The recipe for the Rainbow Treat is correct. Use Green Blue and Orange Egg.

It is true that it would be a loop if you used the rainbow egg to make a Rainbow Treat to feed to your hen to make a rainbow egg. However...I just googled this and it said giving a rainbow treat to a hen will cause them to lay an Obsidian egg? (I haven't tested that - I can update this comment after testing.)
Nope... I tested and this was not true for me.I saw somewhere else that it changes the chicken to rainbow color? (Also, I haven't tested this yet - I can update this comment after testing.)
Nope... I tested and this was not true for me.- When I gave two different hens a Rainbow Treat, I could temporarily see an indicator for each of them in their information that they would lay a rainbow egg at 6am the next day (though after a while it only said normal egg), and in the morning they had both laid a rainbow egg. Yup, redundant in the case of use on hens.
- If I try to check for the option of feeding the Rainbow Treat to a rooster, it does not come up as a treat option in the pie menu. To me, if I could permanently make a chicken or rooster rainbow colored by feeding them the Rainbow Treat, that could be a fun option. Or maybe if it made the chicken lay a hatchable rainbow egg that would hatch into a rainbow chicken or some other special result. At least it would be an option aside from a loop.
- And using that rainbow egg to make a Rainbow Treat would help, since you can feed that Rainbow Treat to other livestock for rainbow wool or rainbow milk for a cow.
I just uploaded my hen's rainbow egg (not debug) and a Rainbow Treat my Sim just made (also not debug) into the gallery if you want to use it to test. https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/pc/gallery/BDA09D47D6F444D4BE2466C72CCBD17E
