[CoL] Chicks cannot be traded in

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PlayStation 5
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.45
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Everything but Spooky Stuff, Dream Home Decorator, Journey to Batuu, Paranormal
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Select a chick, select 'actions', select 'trade in for' and select any of the options.
What happens when the bug occurs? The chick reacts as though you've had a positive interaction with it (like a heart over its head) then just carries on its normal behavior as though it were still assigned to the coop. The coop still registers the chick among its number. Putting the chick in inventory/household inventory and placing in world again has no effect.
What do you expect to see? The chick should disappear as though it's been sold, and shouldn't be registered as part of the coop anymore. Did it successfully with my first few rooster chicks, but it no longer seems to work.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? On console - never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

When I hatch eggs I like to keep the hens (for eggs) and sell most of the roosters, but now I've lost the ability to do so. My coop is filling up with noisy roosters, with no way to get rid of them. I've tried travelling, restarting, moving my coop and every chick assigned to it in and out of inventories, and nothing has helped.

  • @raincloudshade Going to mark this as console issue for now as it works fine for me.

Questions for you: Did you try multiple lots/Sims to see if it way maybe related to the lot itself ?

If anyone has this on PC/Mac, please make sure to say so and not just click me too. Thanks

    Hi there,

I've just had the same issue. My coop is full and I'm not able to trade a chicken for meat. I always play in PC and have no mods at all.

Edition: It's just trading for meat. Other tradings work properly. But I'm unable to get meat out of them.

  • I have this problem on PC - so far with trading for simoleans, gonna try the rest in a second.

Hmm, seems like there is quite the delay on it, going to keep testing.

@wildirishbanshee  The trade doesn’t take effect until they go back into the coop. If they’re a ways away, it will take a while. And if they’re not inclined to go back in or get distracted (which I think is a bug) you might have to call them back. You can do that by clicking on the coop.

  • I have this on PC now. I used to be able to trade for meat before, though I seem to remember that it used to take a while for the chicken to disappear. But now, it either doesn't happen or it takes so ridiculously long that my play session ends before it can go through. I've tried calling the chicken into the coop but no luck. I can still get animal treats, not sure about the other two options.

All right, I think I figured it out. Chicks, I mean not-fully-grown chickens, can't be traded for meat, only for other stuff. And sometimes fully grown chickens (YA, adult, or elder) can have their age reverted to chick, even though they continue to function as adults. (This may be in another bug report somewhere but I never bothered to look for it because it didn't affect anything.) This was what happened to the first chicken that I tried to trade for meat, and I think that's what prevented the interaction from going all the way. I was able to trade it for treats because you CAN trade chicks for treats. Then I tried to trade an elder for meat and it happened straight away.

  • Hello!

I've not played The Sims 4 in a long time. The last time I tried to play was immediately after the July update, where I could not play the game longer than a minute before having my game crash.

The menu screen and loading my save files work fine, but once I've loaded a game and have just started to play, my screen will suddenly freeze and become permanently unresponsive until I force quit the app, or I'll see a sudden black screen followed by my game crashing not even 2 minutes in.

This would happen every single time I would relaunch without fail. I did some research and found many people having issues with the update at the time so I clocked it down to that and forgot about the issue for a while.

However, this evening I tried again (after updating my game) and faced the exact same issue. Since then, I've updated my MacBook Pro (8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3) to Sequoia 15.0, gotten rid of the few mods I had installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the EA app, and tried the 'repair' option on the EA app, all to no avail.

Not sure what else to try here, any advice would be appreciated since I'm not too tech-savvy. Just want to play the game that I miss! ☹️

    Thank you for responding!

Turns out the issue was a super niche bug I was not aware of. I was most recently playing on the cottage living expansion pack and trying to trade my chickens for various things ie. money, produce, animal treats etc, all at the same time. I would always attempt this first thing after loading my game, since it was the last thing I left off doing, and my game would always immediately crash which led me to think my game was broken or my save files were corrupted. Turns out, after finally googling after months of this confusion, that there's an extremely niche bug that will cause TS4 to crash anytime you attempt to trade in your chickens for anything but money. So I finally tried to trade my chickens for just money and it worked! My game no longer crashes!

Super weird issue but I appreciate your help. I'm writing this all in case someone happens to experience the same issue and stumbles across my post 🙂

    Hello all,

If any of you are still encountering this on the latest game version (without mods), would you be willing to share your save file(s)?

If so, please send me a private message with a link to the file. Instructions can be found here: http://x.ea.com/74420

    Thanks!
