I indeed tried it on multiple lots with multiple Sims. Even totally different families. I tried it with saved game A (Surname 'De Coster') and their nearly 10 families, and tried it with saved game B. Did not work for the past two weeks.
I just rechecked it once more this morning, moved some families to new homes, and those Sims/lots do work now.
'Suzanne De Coster' lives in Evergreen Harbor and the insect farm works perfectly in her house.
'Lars De Coster' lives in San Myshuno and the insect farm works perfectly in his apartment as well.
But for some reason, the insect farm still refuses to work for 'Pieter De Coster'. He lives in Oasis Springs in the Yuma Heights building. No matter which member of the household I use. Himself, his wife, children, ... Can I somehow ... debug that specific lot without having to completely remove it and redecorate it again and/or moving Pieter's family ?
