I also experienced something else wrong with the police career (havn't tried the other careers with the new expansion). The first maybe week at work, it was fine. I was able to choose if I wanted to send her alone at work, or play the sim while she was at work. Always joined her. But now, I don't get the choice if I want to join or not. She is just leaving for work.
How to join her at work, when the choice don't apear?

Did switch active households inbetween, yes. Started to play at the sim with the police career, then I got bored of it, when I wasn't able to join her at work anymore, and she didn't get promoted. Then I made only one teenager, that went to school, and the same happened with her grade at school.
Maybe been going on a sim week in the police career, maybe some more days. And guess more at the teenager, she is soon growing up, to young adult.

Have tried to quit and rejoin the police job now. Works! Hope it only will happen this time, and not often.
Don't got a lot time to test if i get promotions at the work too right now. That was a problem earlier, but I am happy for now.
