Hi everyone. I face the same issue of not being able to do anything to the Steampunk Flyamajig rocket launchpad. I have Cottage Living installed, too. I needed to 'Launch or Upgrade Rocket 5 times' as part of the Nerd Brain aspiration challenge.
I managed to work around the issue by doing this:
1. Purchase the 5000 simoleons rocket launchpad and place on my lot
2. Enable cheats i.e. CRTL + SHIFT + C and then keying the 'testingcheats on'
3. Press and hold SHIFT + Right Click the launch pad
4. Select the 'Build Rocket (DEBUG)' option
5. Rocket will automatically build
6. Do all my upgrades and launches to count towards the Nerd Brain aspiration
It doesn't fix the issue of not being able to build a rocket from scratch but at least I'm not stuck completely.... Hope this helps.
Does not work for me. Right clicking only moves the camera around even with CTRL, ALT or SHIFT held down. My current save won't let me build a new rocket yet I can build one if I start a fresh new game. As I recall there was a geekcon a few days prior to me buying the rocket and one of my sims attended it and partially built one of the rockets that was there.
I tried moving the household and moving them back again, deleted cache files and mods, did a game repair, but they still couldn't interact with the rocket pad.
Broken since July huh? Not surprised tbh. :P I would rather EA fixed game breaking bugs instead of releasing new content that can make the game even more unstable.
Hi, I've found an alternative "work around" if you can't get the other suggestions to work - and doesn't involve any cheats: (and apologies if someone has already suggested this and I've missed it!)
1. Place a rocket somewhere in your lot
2. Build a fence around it (leave a bit of space to allow for sims to walk around in it - hint hint 😉) - and place a gate
3. Invite at least 1 sim to your lot, then either form a group (click on your sim, "actions", "form group") and select "go here with group" nside the compound - or go inside and select the "call over" interaction - either way, bring the visitor/ visitors inside the compound
4. Click on the gate, select "lock for everyone except household"
5. Leave the compound and wait - sometimes happens instantly, sometimes takes a few sim-hours, but someone will get bored and start to build the rocket for you!
6. Delete the fence and gate - or unlock the gate so the other sims can leave. You can then continue to build it, or if you leave them in there long enough, they'll fully build it 😁
Works every time (although really, we shouldn't need to do things like this to "fix" EAs bugs!!)

IoHelix's workaround (post 157) worked for me 🙂 I actually already had a club where rocket science is one of the activities, so I just held a club gathering, locked the other members into the enclosure, and left them alone for a while. They never actually started building the rocket, but after that my sim was able to interact with it. No clue why that works, but at least it's a solution! My sim has the Nerd Brain aspiration so it was quite a bummer when she finally could afford a rocket and then couldn't use it 😛
