I play with the xbox1 and I'm also seeing the same obsessive behavior to the same degree. It does seem like a big my dogs do not have the obsessive trait and they all do this. Besides my really have never been afraid of our fireplaces, furnace, computers or tvs, it's a bit more then irritating.
I am having this issue as well. In 2024. Yes, the cat has sleuth trait.
Twisted Mexi's All Cheats has a cheat pets.toggle_selectable_pets
It will let you take control of your pets and stop them from doing this activity.
Another thing you can do is turn off the fireplace, but as soon as you turn it back on, the pets will become obsessed again.
