Though they are things of beauty, certain columns will now, indeed, fade away… when they would otherwise be blocking the camera in Live Mode.

How columns get placed changed when they were changed to multistory. So you have to hit a key to move on. I usually hit ESC to let go of the column once it's placed. You can only place one at the time now and have to either copy or select it again in the build catalog. They also have an adjustment arrow at the top as well as a copy and move options there. If you are zoomed in close, you might not be seeing that so I suggest you zoom out a little so you can see the entire column and command bubble at the top.
On the broken columns. I tested all 4 and the Stand Tall, Stable as a Brick and Wrappers Delight Wrapped columns don't fade out like the others do when zooming in. The Structurally Sound column did. Otherwise, they work just fine.

@CGrant56 @crinrict Sorry a little bit scared you didn't see my last comment....they work fine on the floor but not on the walls 🙂. Please do add the column I'm using to the fix list I haven't been able to play yet because I didn't know it was broken and I don't want to swap it out lol.....but I used so many I can't see anything LOL.
I guess the point I was making was it was inconsistent with how other things work.....like roofs, rooms, pools, decks, etc....none of them hijack the cursor like that. It was a bit unexpected and I didn't know what to do or how to handle it.
