Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.56.52.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Everything except Parenthood and Moschino Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Go to Planet Honey Pop in the winter, while it's snowing.
What happens when the bug occurs? There is snow inside the venue as if outside.
What do you expect to see? No snow inside the building.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. I started noticing after the Realm of Magic patch.
So I went to Planet Honey Pop in San Myshuno while it was snowing and the entire floor of the building had snow covering it. There was no option to make snow angels or anything, so the snow wasn't recognized like it is outside, just the visual effects were there.
I don't have any mods or CC in my game. I had a few pieces of CC in the game a while back, just to view them in CAS, but took them out and deleted the cache files. I used a simple mod to unlock pointed ears in CAS one time, made a few Sims, and took the mod out then deleted the cache files. I've played this lot several times and never had this issue. I suspect it's the result of the Realm of Magic patch.
@LiELFI've seen this too, but before Realm of Magic, so I think it's been an issue for a lot longer. Maybe even since Seasons itself.
It happens when there's snow cover outside, but because the interior floor of Planet Honey Pop is sunken (they removed the foundation inside) that area seems to also get covered in snow too.
A similar thing happens at Discotheque Pan Europa in Windenburg, because that also has a similar removed foundation sunken floor. But only half of that is covered in snow because apparently having a proper roof above it and not just a flat flooring roof prevents the snow indoors.
It's definitely a bug because having any kind of roof above, either hipped or flat should stop indoor snow.
- fcc566 years agoSeasoned Novice@simvasion There are a couple things going on here. First, the issue with being unable to spray graffiti (but not paint a mural) on an indoor mural is a separate issue from interior snow and clearly a bug (or, more likely, careless coding). You can put a mural in a basement that is completely under your building and if there is snow outside you cannot paint graffiti because "There is snow covering the mural!".
Second, many of the EA buildings in the game are not properly winterized. Not just snow on the floor, but sims are cold even with a thermostat in the building. This affects both community and residential lots. Many of the buildings are not built correctly; for example, rooms as defined by the game include both interior and exterior spaces, making it impossible to add ceilings. These buildings can require a lot of rebuilding to winterize. Also, some buildings with "correct" rooms lack ceilings over some rooms, so you need to check for that. The EA builders also seem to like to add a lot of invisible fences to roof areas which also make it difficult or impossible to add ceilings. Some of this is due to the lack of a proper flat roof option (how hard could that be??), but in many cases they serve no discernible purpose and can be deleted. Note that roofs over rooms without ceilings may or may not seal out the cold (depends on the building).
The two buildings mentioned in this thread are both problematic. The gallery in particular needs a lot of work to close in the interior spaces. I ended up rebuilding some walls and putting a glass roof overs the multi-story sections. There is one residential lot I was never able to get right and ended up cheating the iceproof perk for all the residents so that they didn't need to move out. Of course, all the buildings that have open roofs (like the gym and lounge in Uptown) need to be reconfigured to have roofs. The least EA could have done is post winterized versions of their own buildings in the Gallery for download, although I sometimes wonder whether the folks who do the building even know how to fix their own buildings—so many of the buildings that come with the game and DLC are so incompetently designed and built.
There are a lot of issues about the way that weather was not incorporated into the rest of the game very well: Rain at the festivals, invitations to the ruins or the bluffs during blizzards, etc. More careless coding (or lack of interest).- simvasion6 years agoHero@fcc56 I don't know anything about murals, I only replied to a thread about snow indoors in Planet Honey Pop only, which was later merged into this thread.
I'm only mentioning stuff I have observed in my own game, after redesigning the buildings to be fully indoors, enclosed and winterproofed.
The bare ground area left by removing foundation is not counted as an actual floored room by the game, even in a "winterized" building and it erroneously covers it with snow, like the same floor surface outdoors.- crinrict6 years agoHero+
Fixed an issue where Weather would affect items inside buildings.Fixed in Patch 1.59.73
