Thought I had problems with my mouse, but this sounds like the bug I have. It goes into detail mode even if I go from full body view. If I remember correctly, it doesn't show as if the detail mode is activated and that the rightside menu doesn't show, instead I just notice that I seem to "grab" the wrong parts of the face from what I expect.
