[FIXED] [DO] Can't Hire Staff (Hosts and Chefs)

Product: The Sims 4

PlatformPC
Which language are you playing the game in? Swedish
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? Version 1.90.375.1220
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Expansion packs: City Living, Island Living and Get Famous. Game Packs: Dine Out.

Stuff packs: Cool Kitchen.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? In play mode, when owning a restaurant and clicking on "manage staff" under the owned restaurant in the "owning a business" section.
What happens when the bug occurs? Only one section of hiring/managing waiters comes up, and about 30 log messages comes up that says the restaurant isn't working since there needs to be at least one waiter, host and chef hired.

What do you expect to see? All three sections of hiring/managing staff, one for waiters, one for hosts and one for chefs.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

In order to run a restaurant in The Sims 4 you need to hire staff, and there is supposed to be three sections in the "manage staff" pop up; for hosts, chefs and waiters. For me, only the section to hire waiters comes up, not for the other staff. I have tried to see if there is a difference in my other restaurants and without mods and CC, but it is still the same. There comes up about 30 log messages that the restaurant isn't working since there needs to be at least one host, waiter and chef hired, but the game still won't let me hire hosts and chefs. This feature worked up until about 3-4 weeks ago, so I don't know if it is a result of some latest update or patch.

  • Hi @SwaggyPerson123

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

    • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
    • Tray Folder
    • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
    • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
    • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
    • ConfigOverride, if you have your own configuration files.
    • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

  • @crinrict Thank you for the help! Everything works normally when I have none of my backup files in the new sims 4 folder with nothing in it, but when I only put in the "saves" folder from my "sims4_backup" folder, the same error still occurs. Can it be that my saves files are corrupted or something like that?

@SwaggyPerson123 It then even occurs on the new save or just that save you had the issue before ?

If it's just the save, have you tested another restaurant ?

Do you have any folders from a mod in your saves folder ?

  • @crinrict I tried making a new game even with my old "saves" folder in the sims 4 folder, and everything works normally too. So yes it seems that it is only that one save file. I have tried the other restaurant that that sim owns and it is the same error there too. But when I made some other family buy a restaurant in the same save file, the error is not there. So it seems to be a problem with only that one family. I had 2 mods in that "saves" folder but I removed them and nothing changed.

    @SwaggyPerson123

I tested your save game and it looks like something about the household that owns the restaurant is bugging out the list.

The game throws a LE (see attachment).

I was able to buy restaurant and get employees with other households, same as you.

Now, I did find a workaround how you can get your current household to work too but I tested this on a completely vanilla game so if you go back to your modded game, it might not work. I get that you maybe don't want to loose your clothing and all so I would first try this on the version with all your cc (do make sure you update mods) and see if it still works. Do keep a backup.

    1. Sell all your restaurants
    2. Now load your household in the apartment lot and move all your household inventory items to the lot (there are two, a urn and food). If you don't do this, you will loose both.
    3. Optional: Move out of your apartment
    4. Now go to the household manager and click on the household. Choose Transfer Sims between households.
    5. Create a new household and move all four members to the new household. (This will have some downside to collections if you no longer have the items in your inventory I believe as you are creating a new base household this way (not verified though))
    6. If you have not moved out before, the game will ask you if you want to sell all your furniture or keep. Sell it so it's still in the apartment.
    7. Move your new family back into the apartment.
    8. Re-buy the restaurant.
    9. You should now be able to have employees again
