Here's what's happening in my game so far. 2 different saves, 2 different households. Living in different worlds, different careers, one household is aliens and the other is not.
In both saves, the sim who had the career has come home with fear of dead-end job every day they went to work, unless they conquered the fear that day.
The process is as follows. So far, each of these cases is 100% predictable, giving the same result every time.
- Case 1: Go to work without fear of dead-end job listed in traits panel -> Come home with fear of dead-end job listed in traits panel.
- Case 2: Have fear listed in traits panel, but don't have the pointy thought bubble giving the option to Regain Passion, go to work -> Come home with no changes, fear still there.
- Case 3: Have fear listed in traits panel, have the pointy thought bubble, try Regain Passion.
- Case 3a: Regain Passion gives an unsuccessful moodlet. Go to work -> Come home with no changes, fear still there.
- Case 3b: Regain Passion gives a successful moodlet. Go to work -> Come home with fear cured, confident moodlet, no fear listed in traits panel. But then the very next time the sim goes to work, it's Case 1 all over again and the fear comes back.
- Case 3c: Regain Passion gives a successful moodlet. Go to work, but be playing another sim on another lot when the sim returns from work (like if there's a teen in active high school, and the sim with the career has work hours ending at 2pm) -> Come home with no changes, fear still there.
It seems to me that some of this is by design:
- Having the fear in the traits panel creates intermittent moodlets. A sim with this fear will have related moodlets come and go randomly. Having the fear doesn't equal having the moodlets active all the time. A moodlet fading away doesn't equal curing the fear.
- Regain Passion may be successful or may fail.
- Regain Passion is not always available, you have to wait for the pointy bubble to come up.
These parts have got to be bugs:
- Going to work without the fear active shouldn't cause the fear 100% of the time. There should be some sort of test, either completely random or based on some game variables such as mood, time since last promotion, chance cards from that day, etc.
- Returning from work while the player is with another sim on another lot shouldn't negate a successful Regain Passion.
