Sims who have chosen to forgo the spotlight will no longer gain unwanted fame.
Fixed in Patch 1.103.250/1.84

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have a sim step out of the spotlight once you create and start the game. Pick an activity like painting and have them continue to paint and sell - they will eventually earn the first star of the celebrity system even though you set them to not earn fame at the beginning.
What happens when the bug occurs? The sim gains celebrity status even though you have stepped out of the spotlight.
What do you expect to see? Sims should not earn any celebrity status if you have chosen to not be famous.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.

The workaround for this is that once they earn that first fame level, go back into the fame panel, choose step into the spotlight and then choose to step out again. It should clear the fame for the sim.
The problem is that they shouldn't be earning fame to begin with if the game recognized that they were opting out of fame.
I have not seen it reoccur after the workaround for the same sim but it does happen to every sim in the household until you do the workaround
My sim is a painter so I had to use the work around, but it still keeps happening, so I have to do it every time she's done painting for the day. If I don't she's followed around in public and treated like a celebrity even while being opted out. It's super frustrating.
This is my problem, too. My famous actor sim's mother, who's not in the spotlight, out fames him all the time just by selling her terrible paintings to a collector despite my having selected that sims "start out of the spotlight" and the mother sim not being in the spotlight. It's maddening.
To avoid the Sadness Moodlet when they Step out of the Spotlight, I've found it's better to do it while they are asleep or at work so that it zooms by while the game is on super speed and doesn't affect them adversely. Otherwise they are depressed and miserable about losing the fame they shouldn't have had in the first place.
This is seriously making my game unplayable. Is NO ONE else having this problem, and is there no solution?!
My celebrity Sim's girflriend just got famous for kissing him at the Romance Festival despite being out of the spotlight and sims starting with fame turned off. It's really stupid now.
My Sim's child got famous for getting her Llamacorn badge...I could go on and on.
I have a houshod, he is a actor and wants fame, she just paints and out of spotlight.
He gets normal fame for doing fame stuff. and is wolrdstar rigth now.
She just get bit fame for every painting and get level of fame also i once wasn't watching get bad habbit thing for stars. have had to get it cleared then put her in spotlight and then out
Its annoying. She soon wills witch jobs but most jobs willg et bit of fame somehow so it will be terrible.
My actor sime will went out of spotlight now and do other stuff. We wills e if he gets levels back...
I hope they fix that soon. If not i think i wont play for a longer time.
