[FIXED] Harvestables disappearing from sims' inventory and chest inventory

Fixed an issue where Nice or High Quality harvestables would disappear from Sims’ inventories after Travel or Save/Load. ○ We attempted to track down the lost harvestables that are currently lost, but found they were lost and unfindable. It’s findings like this that we find we are at a loss of words for, however any future loss should not be found.
@Costa I had the same issue with the "TV Season Premiere" holiday disappearing at 6 am. All of the "Surprise" holidays like Play The Lottery, Talk Like a Pirate, etc., disappear at 6 am on the day they are supposed to occur. This happens in two different cc/mod-free saves. I created a Bug Report just in case anyone else is having this problem.
I also have the disappearing harvestables bug in both saves.
@crinrict I've tested from all my saves, and it is happening in all of them. I'm cleared out the "cache" for the sims and done the origin repair and it's still happening. I made a video of it.
I will 'me too' and can confirm in my game. In my tests:
All items seem to be in place properly upon initially loading the household or retail lot.
Flowers in the the flower table & personal inventory can be taken to another lot (in personal inventory) but when you return to the home lot they are no longer on the lot or in personal inventory. Exception: 6 begonias remain in my flower arranging table consistently. (Please see 'Note' below... this is apparently because of their quality. @Maple Simmer#4903 discovered this detail!)
Prepared food in the refrigerator or Lice Cold Freezer seems to remain fine, but not produce left in either. Produce there is also stripped upon re-entry.
The sim does not appear to receive any funds for the deleted produce and flowers.
In storage chests, produce/herbs are stripped when re-entering the lot, but my fossils, collectable statues, magic beans, gems, and metals remained.
However...
Produce and flowers that are still on their plants (not harvested yet) do appear to remain when leaving and re-entering the lot.
Produce and flowers stored in the household inventory remain when returning.
Workarounds I found:
You can sell the produce and flowers in your sims' personal inventory, flower arranging tables, and storage boxes before you leave the lot to make sure you get your money since they cannot be saved.
You should be able to take flowers and produce to another lot with you in your personal inventory (to cook with on your retail lot, make flower arrangements with on a retail lot there, or sell on that lot. Just make sure you sell in inventory all that remains afterward of these items, as they will be deleted when you return to the lot, or if you try to return to the home with them.
💡 Note: I did not track by plant quality as @MapleSimmer mentioned - great catch - but I should possibly mention with that in mind that most or all of my plants are perfect in quality. 💡 **EDIT: I just re-tested the begonias that were left in the flower-arranging table on re entry... They were all 'normal' quality!**
I'm so sad. I have sim households with many valuable flowers and produce items in inventory, so I share your pain. Plus this cuts deeply into my play-style with these households.
P.S.... I love your dancing mouse curser on the loading screen. 🙂

@Daemonten That is exactly what is happening with mine. Only the last time, I didn't even leave the lot. I just exited my game and when I re-opened all evolved items from the fridge and personal inventories were all gone. The normal level items seems to stay, anything evolved completely disappears. I think one household lost over 30k simoleons in dragonfruit and orchids... But I didn't notice it at first so if I go back, I lose over a sim week of gameplay for an 8 person household which takes forever.
@danceswithchaos Same here. Lost well over that § amount due disappeared harvestables (my 60 death flowers in one sim's inventory were worth §667 a piece, dragonfruit & orchids, etc. even worse). Now my sims can't even fertilize their own gardens. I've only played two households since the update and download of 'Discover University'. All harvestable inventory gone, and lots of empty food plates (§0) in household inventory. It is annoying.
I'm playing with my first ever vampire, and all his plasma fruit keep dissappearing. Also wolfsbane, garlic and flowers (have no other veg plants).
Exceptions: the plasma fruit count in the fridge stayed at 21 for a while even with traveling (I put in well over a hundred), and one apple and one pomegranate in the Sim's inventory stay where they are.
All harvestables in the household inventory are untouched. Luckily, I always put one of every harvestable in the household inventory because I'm paranoid.
So for now, I sell everything right away and eat my fill of plasma fruit as soon as they're harvested.
PS: so far I have not paid attention to the quality, but all this is happening since the patch two days ago.
I have reset my user folder and started a brand new game, and the harvestables still disappear on save/reload and travel. Roses seem to be immune, though.
All my non-normal harvestables disappeared from my fridge, my flower arranging station, and my storage chest. Not sure if anything else has gone missing as of yet. My fish collection also got wiped out - it only counts the fish she caught today. Really not sure what's going on.
@crinrict My harvestable items started disappearing from my fridge, personal inventory, and flower arranging station after downloading the 11/12 update (that fixed the awkward scrolling/reset to top issue that was happening in the inventory) and downloading Discover University. Also my sims can't cook all learned recipes. I have to click around until I find one that triggers the action. I've done a repair and nothing.
Have you tried taking the cooking items for the recipe out of the fridge and placing them in your inventory (or vice versa if they are already in your inventory)? My veggies seem to go through a stuck & unstuck mode. What I do is take everything out of the fridge and put it in my inventory, then I put them right back into the fridge. For instance, when I want to grill the baked potatoes, I take all my potatoes out of the fridge and put them in my inventory. Then I put them right back into my fridge. And THEN I finally click the grill and cook them. Don't ask me why, but for some reason, my veggies and fruits that are perfect get into this stuck mode, and it's the only way I can make some of the recipes.
On a side note, that's how I tell if my veggies are stuck - I try to grill the baked potato recipe. If it doesn't get queued, then I know my veggies are stuck. I then move the stuff from fridge to inventory to fridge again so that I won't lose them if I go visit someplace. For some weird reason, if they are in stuck mode when I leave my lot, they'll be gone when I come back to my lot later. ☹️
Hey all! I've been dealing with this bug as well, and even though it's not a permanent solution, I think I have a temporary workaround. It would be so helpful to know if it works for you.
In my game, I noticed that if I do a Save and keep playing, all harvestables remain in storage. So, instead of choosing Save and Exit Game or Save and Exit to Main Menu:
Choose Save in-game, then Choose Exit WITHOUT Saving
As I said, this works in my game. It doesn't work when traveling, because you're just saving a point before the travel, and I think the game saves in the background as you travel to a different lot. But, if you can play your game without traveling, this should work to save your stored items. Even if it doesn't work for you, it will create a restore point at that moment, so you could restore the last save and still have your harvestables back.
The only way to keep your above-normal quality harvestables while traveling would be to put them in household inventory, on the ground or on a surface like a table or counter.
Some things I can't replicate - things like the items becoming "stuck" in the fridge, or being unable to cook certain foods or mix certain drinks, or being unable to fertilize plants. I am able to do all of these things the same as I was able to do prior to the bug. I would suggest that if you're having these kinds of issues, that you do a full reset of your TS4 folder, without reinstalling, following these instructions: https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2014/09/resetting-the-game-to-factory-settings-without-reinstalling/ Using a copy of your saves (so you have the original as a backup) try without any mods or cc, even if they have been updated, just in case. This won't stop the above-normal harvestables from being deleted, but it might stop the issues with cooking or getting stuck.
For those that say some of your harvestables changed quality in your inventory - I think this could be because you had a stack of different qualities, and then everything but the normal ones disappeared. When you have a stack that has, say, 5 normal apples and 15 perfect apples, when you hover your cursor over the stack it will say it's a stack of perfects. You only see the normals if you expand and look at each individual item in the stack. The lowest quality item will be listed at the bottom of the individual items. So, it looks like you have a stack of 20 perfects, and then when the perfects disappear, you're left with a stack of 5 normals.
@SimQARobo Thanks so much for the update! It's really nice to know that this issue is seen. Just in case this info is helpful, here are some details I noticed.
I have been testing this on base game, no mods/cc (never used) saves. I reset the TS4 folders by renaming the existing TS4 folder and letting the game create a new one. I did this after the first patch, and then again with the hotfix patch, in case things changed. Tested both times, using a variety of flowers, fruits and vegetables of all qualities (normal, nice, excellent, magnificent and perfect)
Tested storing each in/on refrigerators, chests, ground, flooring tiles, dining and console tables, coffee tables & end tables, sim's personal inventory, household inventory and leaving harvestables on plants. In each case of "Save and exit" or a sim traveling, everything above normal quality disappears from refrigerators, chests, and sim's personal inventory. Items on surfaces, flooring/ground, household inventory and still on plants remain regardless of quality.
Choosing to Save and continuing gameplay preserves all items in all storage. Choosing to Save & Exit or Save As causes everything above normal quality to disappear from refrigerators, chests and sim's personal inventory. Traveling off-lot causes the same disappearances. In my game, the items are lost from the personal inventory immediately upon arrival at the destination. Returning home, the refrigerators & chests have lost everything above normal quality. Choosing to Save, then choosing to Exit without Save retains all harvestables regardless of quality in all storage areas.
I've noticed one more thing with this fertilizing/ plant issue. Sometimes one sim can fertilize many plants at a time, like normal. Other times I can't notice the glitch, and the game works fine, but rarely. All the rest of the times, this glitch happens and is annoying.
Any updates on this issue? I would like a response! <3
I forgot all about that. Sometimes I'd have to fertilize one plant at a time. It was very, very annoying since I have gardens with two of each plant or more so many to tend to, but not quite as game breaking for me as not being able to keep my harvestables. My GUESS, is that you are trying to use greater than normal crops to fertilize with and because they are so buggy right now that's what is causing the problem. However, if anyone who likes to do those tests is out there, could you see if you could recreate this problem with both normal fertilizer and crops, normal fertilizer and better crops, better fertilizer and normal crops, and better fertilizer and better crops? Maybe we can narrow down the problem to one or all scenarios.
Unfortunately, I use MCCC and I'd hate to lose all those settings AGAIN or I'd do it myself. I'm barely hanging unto my sanity not being able to garden or play my favorite games as it is. Sorry about being such a fuss pot. I try to be cheery, but this is still hitting me hard. I'm sure everyone on this thread understands and is feeling the same.
@BlackjackWidow Hey there; I tried doing this workaround, however I ran into a different issue; this could be problematic for those attempting to use this workaround.
When I saved in-game, then quit the game without saving as mentioned, I reloaded the game and noticed that it had rolled back my progress on the lot except for my Sim's inventory. I had my Sim enrolled in University at the time, and when I reloaded the game they were no longer enrolled, yet they still had their University coursebook and presentation in their inventory. (The presentation is not workable now though, since they're no longer enrolled in University.)
I did not load into any other lots before coming back into this one.
Hi @burin077 - That's really strange, I don't see how saving the game could un-enroll your student (but then, there are many things going on in here that don't make any sense 🙂 ).
I hope you recovered the previous save! Just wondering, if you just Save and continue playing are you getting the same thing? Does this sim stay enrolled if you save and exit?
My harvestables are all perfect and they are gone almost immediately after picking so my spellcasters never have ingredients. Also lose anything dug up whether travelling or not. Is this a bug or is it a mods issue?
In my opinion, a bug ( A serious one...). I've been playing several Sims games over the Years. - Experienced several Mod issues. I do play with Custom Content now, Yes, but not Mods at all in Sims 4 (direct gamechanging content). But this problem charges different players, with different playing styles, even vanilla players (Those who play without CC or direct game modifications). If You got Game modifications, check if they're up to date, but otherwise twiddle Your thumbs, like the rest of us.. Play with already ruined households, in my humble opinion, and when the long awaited patch will arrive, use those to check the the legality of the patch. Use cheatcodes if not a perfect garden, and switch between home -> outer location -> home again. DON'T use any important households for harvestables! I believe it was the preparing for University Patch, since people without UNI also experience the problem..
