@crinrictI have tried to test this and I think this may be the (or one of the) problems:
If you shave a beard or a body part completely and then save & quit the game and reload it, your set hair length preference is gone. The "naked" state is the new preference instead. And though hair growth remains enabled, the hair doesn't grow back.
The problem does not happen if you shave hair just back to the preferred length.
One general reason behind this may be that hair doesn't grow from hairless body parts because the game needs a hairstyle preference that can be expanded. But that's complete speculation.
I will do further testing, this feature is very confused.
I do only use preferred length for facial.
- alanmichael13 years agoSeasoned Ace@crinrict Perhaps you can do a very quick test: Take a Sim with chosen back hair, let him shave it completely, save & exit and reload the game. Then take him to CAS and see if he still has his back hair prefernce. For me it's gone - same with beards.

Shave Back hair
Saved the game
Re-entered
Entered CAS
Hair growth still enabled

Thanks a lot for testing! Then I have a glitch (in my vanilla game, scandalous). I will try repair game (perhaps this will also make my dust reappear) ...
- crinrict3 years agoHero+@alanmichael1 Nah, dust is broken

Just a question, does hair not grow at all if aging isn't enabled? Because I have it disabled at the moment (as a result of the aging bug) and it's been 2 sim weeks and my male sims facial hair hasn't grown, and my sims leg hair hasn't either (yes they are enabled, I made sure)

Repair game didn't help. Whenever I reload my game (or return from Manage Worlds) while my Sims' hairstyle is shorter OR LONGER than the set choice, the new style is the new default. The settings are not persistent. Perhaps it plays a role that I don't play a teen but a YA spellcaster. Hair growths remains enabled though.
- crinrict3 years agoHero+@alanmichael1 Could you test a non-occult Sim ?

It seems that hair growth works if you shave your sim's hair, so if you make a sim in CAS, and select a stubble for beards, that is what their preset hair length will be, so when it grows back, it'll be at that length, same with leg hair.
They keep their length until you shave them, so your male sims won't have a full beard if it's not their preset, or leg hair if you don't select it.
So has anyone in this thread tried to do this?
- alanmichael13 years agoSeasoned Ace@crinrict Yes, but the reason was my corrupted save. In a new save the problem is gone and hair settings are persistent. Nevertheless, corruption after the two recent patches may be the reason of some problems described in this thread. I noticed that my save was broken when not only hair settings but also newly bought items and plants disappeared after travelling.
