Mermaids now properly pass along their genetics to the next generation.
Fixed in Patch 1.54.120
This was also fixed for Console in 1.17

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try for baby with a normal male sim and a mermaid and wait until the pregnancy is over. The baby looks different and not like its parents.
What happens when the bug occurs? The baby doesn’t look like its parents at all. The whole appearance (skin, hair and eye color, body shape, etc) is different, only the occult state (mermaid) is passed from its mother. Started a new game with the same two sims, the same problem occured again.
What do you expect to see? A child which corresponds to the parents’ genetics.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure
The child kinda looks randomly generated by the game.
