[FIXED] [IL] Mermaid Sims Won't Die

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.55.108.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Cats and Dogs, City Living, Get Famous, Get to Work, Get Together, Island Living, Seasons, Dine Out, Jungle Adventure, Outdoor Retreat, Parenthood, Real of Magic, Spa Day, StrangerVille, Vampires, Bowling Night Stuff, Cool Kitchen Stuff, Luxury Party Stuff, Perfect Patio Stuff, Vintage Glamour Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? A mermaid sim won't die from old age, dangerously Tired moodlet.
What happens when the bug occurs? The sims won't die from old age. Dangerously Tired moodlet disappears after I push them to do exhausting actions.
What do you expect to see? Sims dying from old age, emotional deaths, etc.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

In Sulani I have 4 mermaid sims. They are about the same age, all their age bars are maxed, warning that they would die appeared since one of my sims was a teenager. Said sim is now an adult and all 4 mermaid sims are still alive. Tried killing them with the Dangerously Tired moodlet, it appeared but after I forced more exhausting actions it canceled out and disappeared without the countdown for the moodlet to disappear finishing.

Mermaids previously would not die due to starvation or aging up. That has been fixed. Remember to feed your Mermaids!

    Fixed in Patch 1.99.264/1.78

I'm playing a black widow and have 4 sims trapped - 2 human and 2 mermaids. The humans were the latest addition and they have both died of hunger. The mermaids, however, have severe hunger and dehydration, have the moodlets but there's no timer on them and they're still alive even though it's been days.

On another note, one of the mermaids has been eaten by the cowplant at least 3 times and that also hasn't killed them.

    Thanks! 🙂

  • @kreatora tried everything you can think of, it just doesn't work... first reported this bug on 09/2019. It is 07/2022 and it is still the same... I really don't have fun playing with mermaids ever since

@xochiquetzl_xkvn hahaha sorry for your merman! Loving your sim doesn't make you annoying! my number 1 issue with this bug is: if mermaids have a bigger than average life span, that's ok, but they can't die on incidents (hunger, for example) which does not make sense (since imortals such as vampires and, now, werewolves, can die normally because of them) and when they get to old age their time bar is like, completely filled and I keep getting those notifications saying " [....] is gonna die soon blah blah" all the time and it gets on my nerves... seriously, very frustrating ☹️

Mermaids cannot die of dehydration, but I think this is by design. They just get stinky and dried out. Plant sims don't die of dehydration either, so it's consistent.

Mermaids cannot die of hunger despite the starve to death in x hours expiring. Nothing happens. I think this is a bug.

Mermaids can die in a fire and be electrocuted. Haven't tried other deaths, but I assume they mostly work. If pufferfish doesn't work, then that also seems intentional to me.

Now about dying from old age. This might be working as intended. Mermaids have an extended life span. It's a very long time before they die of old age. All of their extra time is allocated to the elder stage as per the sims logic. I have MC Command Center installed and it tells me they have 210 days for a mermaid on normal lifespan who just became an elder, I think. I manually set her lifespan to the max days in lifespan for elder, 47. It still said she had 164 days left. I had her eat 2 mermadic kelp to turn her back into a human. She immediately died of elderly demise. So...work around...once your mermaid's age bar is glowing as an elder, have them eat 2 mermadic kelp if you're ready for them to go. Kind of sucks for ones in the world, but you can ask them to join your household and then have them do that.

How often does the bug occur? All the time
What is your current game version number? 1.93.146..1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed?  all of them.  Even happened when I didn't have all the packs.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Get an elder mermaid, maxed out in the fitness skill. Even just an elder mermaid with no fitness skill.
What happens when the bug occurs?  They do NOT die.
What do you expect to see?  Them to die at some point without me helping them along via mods, too much woohoo, etc.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes, but even when I remove the mods, start a new save, etc. and make an elder mermaid that I haven't played before they still WONT die.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No.  I didn't notice mermaid life spans until I actively decided to play as a mermaid in a NSB legacy challenge save.  Then I noticed it in ALL my saves.

This happens on short, normal, and long life spans.

I've always had to use MCCC to kill my mermaids off whenever I wanted them to die.  I've let other families I played just live their life & I've gone through over 3 generations of regular sims and those mermaids have stayed alive as elders.  It's like they have some immortal option from the spellcasters ability from potions - but without the players knowledge.  Like it is programmed that way - or a bug has taken the properties from those options.  The only mermaids I have witnessed dying on their own is the island spirits that come with Island Living - but after 10 generations of regular sims.  I only realized they died as I called them on a mermaid to see if they would kill him & he's generation 11's spouse.  I saw them alive with generation 10 in a bar.

As an April 2023 update, mermaids still have weirdly long age spans when elders. They have a ton of bonus days for some reason, and as such take forever to die. I'm unsure if this is a bug or a feature.

Also, I tested out some other deaths and mermaids seem unable to starve to death for some reason too. That, I believe is a bug. I tested out sauna and overexertion deaths and those seem to be working as intended. For some strange reason, you aren't allowed to starve a mermaid to death. Once they reach the starving point, the moodlet will just linger and then they won't die of starvation.

So even now, years later, the starvation bug for mermaids is still present. Hopefully it can be fixed soon.

Edit: I did some more testing and it looks like the pufferfish death also doesn't kill mermaids. I'm also unsure if this is intentional or not.
